Sukkur Airport Lounge Converted into a Shadi Hall by Opposition Leader

Despite the security situation in Pakistan – especially at airports – the opposition leader from National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah converted Sukkur airport’s passenger lounge into a party hall. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Airport Security Force (ASF) took no action against this situation.

On the December 27th, a large number of guests arrived from different parts of Pakistan to participate in Benazir Bhutto’s 10th death anniversary. All of the flights landed at Sukkur Airport.

Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah arranged a special lunch for his friends and other members of the party on the occassion.

An eye witness choosing to stay anonymous told ProPakistani that the passenger lounge was divided into different parts. All the central leaders of Pakistan People’s Party, Senators, MNA and MPA attended this lunch. They seemed happy on breaking the law. He added,

The preparations began on December 26th. People were entering the lounge and other sensitive areas without any security checks. On December 27th, the celebrations commenced at 11:00 am and continued till late evening without any breaks.

The witness said that the regular passengers were harassed and forced to sit on a side in the lounge and were not even allowed to use the restrooms during the event.

A higher official of CAA told ProPakistani that over the last 10 years, this has become a routine. Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah arranges party at the airport lounge and if somebody tries to stop them he or she faces a very hard time. The official said,

This is a 10 year old practice of Khurshid Ahmed Shah and nobody has the authority to stop him. Sukkur is the city of opposition leaders so no one dares annoy him.

The officer also told that Sukkur airport becomes very busy due to special flights and VVIP charted flights on December 27th. The airport hangars are packed with commercial planes.

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan Air Force (PAF) also uses Sukkur airport for transportation and other operational usage. This kind of a security lapse is dangerous and miscreants can take advantage of the lax security in this situation.

Deploy one squad (8 man team) of Army troops on leave from the Line of control or Waziristan (still wearing the dirt, sweat, and hopefully not blood from front line service) with Orders from the top to let the local authorities know, the army will back them up enforcing the laws. Local police and security guards are afraid they will be personally persecuted from local politicians.
