Sukhoi gets special shelters at Lohegaon

Aren't the Su-30MKIs mostly metal? Carbon fibre gets damaged by UV rays, but metal shouldn't. They probably just created these shelters for temperature and humidity reasons.

Probably another case of media shooting in the dark.

you may be aware how polluted the air is in our part of the world...there is acid rain and even acid dew every time it rains .
combine that with over heating the cockpit in sunlight while parked on tarmac..
results will be damaging.

None of the Su 30mki crashed due to temperature or pollution or UV rays.
MKI's have a very low crash rate of 0.33 crashes per 10,000 flying hours lower than even F 22's and as good as that of the F-15's and F-16's of USAF in 2010-2011.

It is a case of the media trying to shoot in the dark. While there are parts of an aircraft that are vulnerable to heat, dust, humidity and even UV radiation; they are in fact hardened or built to far higher specifications than civilian specifications. There is something known as "Mil-Spec" which exceeds conventional standards such as ANSI-ASME-DIN etc. For example, aircraft grade aluminium is far different from cook-ware grade alumium which is used to make pots and pans and so on.

People here are talking about parking cars in the sun and so on. Now can somebody tell how much structural damage they have suffered in their Maruti 800/Mehran cars (which are certainly low-end autos) due to parking their cars in the sun? For example, how many people have had to frequently change the weather-strips/gaskets on their windows, which is one of the most vulnerable parts of their cars. The most noticeable damage is to the paint-work, i.e. the shade and shine diminishes. Thats most of it.

And the Air Forces are certainly not flying Maruti/Mehrans in the skies. While an aircraft will certainly appreciate any cover that it can get, the issue has certainly been given some "undue spin"!

They could have ordered makeshift tents, 'tamboo' as we call them.
Yes but that's not really a long term solution like these metal shelters, these will prove much more effective.

Shelters must be ready before inducting any aircraft....

IAF may be learned a lesson from Su-30MKI Pune crash...

Start building Shelters for C-17,PC-7,Rafale,C-130J,Mi-17V......and other aircraft

shelters are not built for transports . for one they are too large to be accommodated in them , and second its not practical.

Actually C-130-30J, Phalcons and most of the IL-76/78MKIs DO have shelters in IAF service. In fact the building of hangers for C-130-30J was a provision in C-130 original contract (same is true for C-17 deal) and in fact at Hindon 12 C-130-30 hangers have been built (a reason why follow on 6 are certain).

No not all just a few as an interim measure until construction catches up with deployment. The IAF is undertaking a huge morin satin of all its AF bases but others are being modernised quicker than others with some being given priority over others.
