What's new

Suicides are surging among US troops

People at home know only what CNN/FOX news tells them,so no problems for them, they will cheer and jeer when they are shown bombs being dropped at evil taliban...But these soldiers actually see the reality that the bombs often fall on sleeping civilians who had nothing to do with the war....this becomes difficult for them to accept as they were told something totally different from what they see when they are out there...

I think Americans have realised the problem with their own population being told the truth so their media has become very controlled to spread lies and not inform their people of the toll as the AIPAC infected regime would be overthrown

Am off for lunch but I think it is worth trying to work out how extensive the losses are. I think I read somewhere that improvements in healthcare mean that in Vietnamese war for every fatality there was 3 soldiers losing limbs etc. But in Iraq and Afghanistan its something like 1 in 8

during the Soviet occupation,

when the Afghan resistance picked up pace and the count of body bag started to get too unbearable then the Soviets decided eventually that the occupation was not worth it. sadly millions of Afghans had died by then but what changed the mind of the Soviets was the loss of men and machinery.

in today's conflict, its mainly and only Pak- Afghan people loosing their lives because the American technology is way ahead and there is no super power to assist the Afghans in their struggle against yet another invader. hence you mostly see a lot of bravado and sickening jokes and comments on the web demanding to "kill them all", nuke them , burn them blow them up and bla bla bla

not sure when the American population will decide that it has lost enough of its men but by the time it does it might be too late for the people who are having to suffer the consequences of American war in this region.

freedom and justice are the catch phrases of the American administration no matter which party is in Washington, but for the name sake of this phrase they must decide now that its enough already.

the back of the Al Qaeda is broken, its leadership is either killed or captured. the Taliban as a powerful military entity have been negated too and are willing to talk. so end this war now and leave. if the majority of Afghans dont accept the western democracy then leave them be, its a lost cause to bomb them to submission and also goes against the very spirit of freedom and justice unless these words were used as a satire.

West do not have stomach for a war of losses. It was public opinion that made them go home after Vietnam. As I suggested before they have learned their lesson and I believe go to great lengths to mask the real effects of their war. Their leaders would not get elected if the American people really knew what was going on.

Iraq War Deaths Exceed Vietnam War Numbers

Department of Veterans Affairs Reports 73 Thousand U.S. Gulf War Deaths

By Gary Vey for viewzone

Editor's Note: This story was published in the early part of 2010 and received little attention until just recently. It's very satisfying as a writer to receive emails from readers who are finally realizing what kind of deception has been pulled on the American citizens. I also thank Rense.com for posting the link. For some reason, Rense.com rarely carries stories from viewzone.com, despite our common concerns and views. Anyway, thanks Rense! And thanks to the many readers who help spread the truth from websites like rense.com and viewzone.com -- we do it for you because we love this country and despise what it has become of late. Happy July 4th everyone!

More Gulf War Veterans have died than Vietnam Veterans. This probably is news to you. But the truth has been hidden by a technicality. So here is the truth.

The casualties in the Vietnam War were pretty simple to understand. If a soldier was dead from his combat tour, he was a war casualty. There are 58,195 names recorded on the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC.

Some of these brave men died in the jungles of Vietnam while others died in Medivac units or hospitals in Japan and America. A dead soldier can surrender his life anywhere in service to his country. It really doesn't matter where this happens. The location of a soldier's death in no way colors his sacrifice.

But something odd has happened with the Iraq War. The government, under the Bush administration, did something dishonest that resulted in a lie that's persisted since the war began -- and continues to this very day. They decided to report the war deaths in Iraq only if the soldier died with his boots on the ground in a combat situation.

What's the difference, you might ask?

The combat in Vietnam was in rural areas, far removed from medical treatment centers. Injured soldiers were treated by a Medic. Most died at the scene of the battle before they could be evacuated. Many died on route or were declared dead at the medical treatment facilities. The situation in Iraq is vastly different.

Fighting in Iraq is mainly in urban areas. Soldiers who are injured are quickly evacuated with armored personnel carriers or helicopters. It's a much more efficient system than what was possible in Vietnam, but for those that are seriously injured it means that death is more likely to happen while they are in transit or at the treatment facility.

Under the new reporting system, deaths that happen en route or post evacuation are not counted as combat deaths. This is why the number seems unusually low -- a little over four thousand as of 2009.

The actual figures have been hidden from the American public just like the returning, flag draped coffins were censored from the press. But the figures are now available and we can only hope that the American people will be outraged when they learn how they have been misled.

According to The Department of Veterans Affairs, as of May 2007, reports in the Gulf War Veterans Information System reveal these startling numbers:

Total U.S. Military Gulf War Deaths: 73,846
* Deaths amongst Deployed: 17,847
* Deaths amongst Non-Deployed: 55,999

The stastics for non-lethal injuries are likewise staggering:

Total "Undiagnosed Illness" (UDX) claims: 14,874
Total number of disability claims filed: 1,620,906
* Disability Claims amongst Deployed: 407,911
* Disability Claims amongst Non-Deployed: 1,212,995

Percentage of combat troops that filed Disability Claims 36%

I know you probably will think this is another conspiracy theory -- I did when I first heard about this -- so please read the original report for yourself. More deaths and mysery to follow...

More than 1,820 tons of radioactive nuclear waste (i.e. depleted uranium) were exploded in Iraq alone in the form of armor piercing rounds and bunker busters. This represents the worlds worst man made ecological disaster ever. 64 kg of uranium were used in the Hiroshima bomb. The U.S. Iraq Nuclear Holocaust represents far more than fourteen thousand Hiroshima's.

The nuclear waste the U.S. has exploded in the Middle East will continue killing for hundreds of years! That's how long these particles of radioactive dust will continue to blow around, get lodged in someone's lungs or be ingested. Scientists calculate that there is now enough radioactive material in Iraq to wipe out a third of the world's current population.

While we never found any WMD's (Weapons of Mass Destruction) in Iraq, we sure made up for it by importing our own! Birth defects among Iraqi newborns are up a whopping 600% from before the war. The defects are typical of the kind produced by exposure to radioactive poisons. And these injuries are happening to the civilian population of Iraq -- the people we were supposedly "liberating."

This writer happened to visit Iraq back in 2001, at the time Saddam Hussein was still in power. The world's nations were imposing an embargo on all imports in an attempt to punish the nation for invading the neighboring nation of Kuwait. I remember the good people of Iraq who treated me with kindness and hospitality -- even while knowing I was an American. Despite the embargo on such vital things as medicine and hospital supplies, the markets were thriving with local produce. Children freely played in the streets and there was laughter. To see what this war has done to Iraq is especially painful and speaks loudly of the immorality that has caused these innocent people to suffer. And now, to see that this same immorality extends to the American people in the form of deception and lies crosses the line.

I live in a small town in New England. We have known of many casualties from Iraq -- too many. Yet the numbers being reported in the media make it seem that this is a rare occurrence. Just over 4,000? How can this be? In short -- it's NOT.

What will it take to awaken people and make them angry enough to hold our government responsible for these lies? A democracy is only good if its people are well informed. How else can we make decisions abou what's best for us? If we are fed s*** and kept in the dark we truly are a nation of mushrooms.

Before I end this I want to say a big THANK YOU to all the vets who put their country and its people before themselves. We are proud of you and believe that you put your lives on the line for something a little better than what we are currently experiencing with our government. Thanks to you we're still a democracy. So it's up to us, the people you fought for, to make your effort worthwhile.

What do you think about this? Do you care?

Surprise! Iraq War Deaths Exceed Vietnam War

Suicide is a decision to alleviate pain. The pain is physical, psychological, and emotional--it is real pain. To reverse the trend, WE WILL help these soldiers get healthy, starting with physical health.

We should reduce the opportunities to consume alcohol and limit how much soldiers can consume. Eliminate refined sugars, MSG, and refined carbs from the dining halls, and make sure there are many healthy choices instead.

Educate the soldiers how to improve their health through healthy food and life choices. Increase daily PT, vitamin and mineral intake, and increase counseling services.

You can only push people so far, and then the stress takes a toll. Multiple deployments, a lack of quality PT, and increased junk food just exacerbate the suicide problem.

so only thing Mr "Change" has got is a Nobel peace prize. rest he is the same like his predecessors' putting his men to war one conflict to another.

the American blackops are already active in Syria and Iran.
I must say the American policy makers are like vampires, they just love to spill the human blood. if in the process some of their own pawns get lost then too bad as long as there is enough blood of their victims.

thats one aspect and can only be explained by picking a fight while on a night pass, in a mess when a brawl breaks out. not to the level of committing suicide.

there is no doubt in their proficiency to kill. they are extremely tough and trained with the best weapons that money can buy. the problem I see is far deeper.

do you recall the term "stare of the Marines" ? reference to the soldiers fighting the Vietnam war and they used to get that after few months. after killing countless Vietcong and Vietnamese civilians (hell they all looked the same) some of them just broke down mentally and killed themselves with their own guns.

the problem is not too profound here because most of the soldiers got Xbox and play station style weapon controls, to them its just a video game and you see and hear them giggle and laugh when they blow up people with their missiles and cannons.
but its hard to avoid the mutilated bodies of the Afghans, that must be having a bad effect on their minds.

U.S. soldiers dangerously over-medicated with antipsychotic drugs

As if American soldiers sent to fight America’s undeclared wars in Iraq and Afghanistan haven’t suffered enough, now it turns out many are being prescribed powerful, side-effect laden drugs to treat their post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These Big Pharma mind altering concoctions are ineffective and can be downright dangerous.

Multiple studies show around 30 percent of Americans soldiers who have served in combat now suffer from PTSD. It’s not surprising when you consider these facts. Imagine being so young you might still be called a “kid” by some. Only you are a soldier and instead of going to college classes and rock concerts you are watching friends your age die (about 20 percent of those killed in the U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan are between 18 and 21).

You may also be killing people yourself out of self-defense, and sometimes by mistake. Even more traumatizing, you may have witnessed your fellow soldiers torture and kill civilians. Although it is often considered “unpatriotic” to even suggest such possibilities, even the U.S. Pentagon has officially apologized about American soldiers forming a so-called “death squad” to randomly murder Afghan civilians, mutilate their corpses, and keep their body parts as trophies.

PTSD typically occurs after someone has experienced a situation like the ones described above — it results when a person has the severe shock of feeling their life was in danger or there was a sense of extreme hopelessness or helplessness.

The condition is characterized by re-experiencing the painful memory, trying to avoid anything that reminds them the traumatic events, and being kept in a state of hyper-arousal when reminded of the trauma. Earlier this year, research published in the JAMA Archives of General Psychiatry concluded that those who experienced post-traumatic stress disorder during combat in Iraq were also more likely to suffer longer-term health problems including depression, headaches, tinnitus, irritability and memory problems than soldiers who experienced only concussions without PTSD.

Now comes a new and disturbing study just published in JAMA (the Journal of the American Medical Association) that reveals patients with military-related, chronic PTSD are typically treated with antidepressants known as serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs, such as Prozac). The drugs don’t often work and doctors are now using a heavier drug — the antipsychotic medication risperidone, also found to be ineffective.

Background information in the JAMA report notes that PTSD is among the most common and disabling psychiatric disorders among soldiers who have faced combat and according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), almost 90 percent of veterans diagnosed with PTSD are prescribed SRIs. The authors of the study stated that an SRI study in veterans produced negative results so antipsychotics (SGAs) are now commonly used medications for PTSD symptoms “despite limited evidence supporting this practice.“

In other words, without data showing this is a good, reasonable way to treat PTSD, doctors are routinely drugging tens of thousands of U.S veterans with these mind altering drugs.

John H. Krystal, M.D., of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, West Haven, Conn., and colleagues conducted a study to see whether risperidone (an antipsychotic drug often used for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder), when added to an ongoing Big Pharma drug regimen, would be more effective than placebo for calming chronic military-related PTSD symptoms in veterans who had already been subjected to at least two treatment regimens with SRI drugs.

The randomized, placebo-controlled trial lasted six months and involved 367 patients who received either risperidone (up to 4 mg once daily) or placebo and other psychosocial mental health therapies. Symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety and other health outcomes were measured with a variety of scales and surveys.

Dees Drugs/image

After analyzing their data, what did the scientists find? Absolutely no statistically significant difference between risperidone and placebo in helping reduce PTSD symptoms after 6 months of treatment. What’s more, risperidone was not statistically superior to placebo on any other way — including improving quality of life, depression, anxiety, or paranoia/psychosis.

“Overall, the data do not provide strong support for the current widespread prescription of risperidone to patients with chronic SRI-resistant military-related PTSD symptoms, and these findings should stimulate careful review of the benefits of these medications in patients with chronic PTSD,” the authors concluded in their study.

Meanwhile, countless veterans continue to receive this powerful drug which does not help PTSD. The drug also causes a host of other problems including these side effects: confusion, inability to control body movements, heart problems, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, weight gain, stomach pain, anxiety and agitation, restlessness, vision problems, difficulty urinating, inability to perform sexually, and seizures.
