PS: And no More Skin Color Posts Please..... I am tired.. I am brown..

AM,
This may interest you:
He is a Pakistani journalist and this report is from the Pak newspaper.
And no more " we are the same people" posts please.....I am tired...I am Pakistani as in DIFFERENT AND DISTINCT FROM INDIAN
Salim,
I am afraid you misunderstand me. My argument isn't so much about whether Indians and Pakistanis "share genetics", as it is about respecting the existence of an independent and sovereign Pakistani state.
As I mentioned to Aryan on another thread, repeatedly pointing out that we are all brown skinned is not going to achieve friendship and close ties - building upon common interests and resolving disputes is.
As far as genetics go - it would be far more prudent to celebrate the "common ancestors" that all of humanity is purported to have.
National Geographic ran an article on how the DNA entire population of the world can be linked back to a tribe in Africa - and the human migration pattern supports this.
Simply stopping at pointing out the similarities between South Asians is to still severalize people.
Well I can't wish away that there are no common bloodlines in Pakistan and India..
I am technically a "Janjua" Rajput from motherside and a Khatri/"Chauhan" Rajput from Fatherside.. and many of My father's and mother's side relatives are Pakistani in origin..
So though we share common bloodlines(mostly in NORTH INDIA) but the hate over the last 60 years has made us oblivious of our commonality.. I'm cool with it... though... we are different then...
See AM.. the fact is that we in our hate and desire to proove each other wrong and to try and gain high ground will never acknowledge certain things..
I don't think we can ever achieve friendship... close ties maybe...
even if we were the exact mirror opposites...
These forums usually are working in a opp. manner.. how many times have the pissing off contests as opposed to promoting friendship have taken place??
I am sorry.. but unlike most people I am a more regionalistic/Nationalistic person than a globalistic individual...
My experiences/upbringings have imbibed in me a sense of belonging largely to India, Sikhism and Punjab not necessarily in that order.. and in my sense of "belonging" I cannot but turn a blind eye to "Muslim" members of my extended bloodlines now in West Punjab...
I generally get along better with Punjabis than other groups irresp of their country of origin..
I am not an anthropological expert.. but from what I feel I disagree with this..
Anways We "Browns" our subservient to white more than our fellow Brown, Black or Yellow.. cheers..
If you see that states of Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, HP, UA, Delhi, Raj, Guj.. the people here are similar to people in Kashmir, Sindh and Punjab of Pakistan..
and an avg Indian is different from an avg Pakistani.. k??
I am a Rajput as well - but what does it really matter if the two of us are the same "whatever"? Am I supposed to extend special favors to you, or you to me, simply on the basis that we are "alike"?
If we were to be acquainted, would I/you continue to improve the relationship if we had no shared interests or pursuits, simply because you were a "Rajput"? Of course not.
Now if you liked running 5 or 6 miles every other day, and enjoyed talking geo-politics we would probably get along great. That is all I am saying, that this obsession with pointing out that we are the "same people" is silly, and distracts from the real issues.
I don't get along with more than 90% of the Indians.. what do I do? stop saying they are my countrymen??
I can't stand certain members of my family.. do I claim they are not a part of my family??
You cannot wish away what my heritage is... it is a different question that I don't get along well with them.. we don't have common interests..
Interests is a matter of getting along..
The Yanks and the Brits don't go through a round of back patting and cheers of "we are the same" every time they sit down to work together. They focus on what actually builds relationships - Interests.
Interests??
I think a shared language, culture, attitudes make them all similar..
Aussies, Kiwis, Canadians, American, British all have similar culture, language, bloodlines etc. besides interests.. that is why they get along..
And Indians and Pakistanis will never get along why?? Because we are "Same" narrow minded people... trying to prove our narrow minded politicians right..
Fer chrissake we peddle and believe so much misinfo if it suits our purpose of proving the other wrong..
"Hate and desire to prove the other wrong"? Thats quite presumptuous of you.
There is not "hate" on this side. simply a desire to be acknowledged as Pakistani, not "A Pakistani who is the same as all Indians". Once again, its not "Hey you Americans who are the same people as the rest of the people in Europe" , its simply "Americans". Whats so hateful in that?
