I think China has tested the test of Modi diplomacy. They might have done calculation for a long time and concluded that it is not in China's interest to mess with india. That is why they have made a peace offer and extended a hand of friendship. As expected notorious China seems to be falling in line. It is the time for india to judge china by its action and not by mare talk. If china continues to support Pakistan strategically, India should continue her military cooperation with vietnam , Taiwan , Japan and other south china sea nation. That will make china humble and accept the reality that equations have changed. It will be in benifit of china to be humble and friendly than try to a nation of hegemonic design.

the article you share mentions the existing cooperation on economics, education, or tourism. But it doesn't mention any existing military cooperation.
Since you mention the "continue of military cooperation with Taiwan", then there should at least be some existing event. Otherwise it could only be "start military cooperation".

Republic of china in taiwan also claims Southern Tibet in addition to Aksai Chin. In fact, they claim more territory then the CPC does.
Educational and economic exchanges? Sure why not? Money makes the world go round- but Taiwanese military cooperation with india?

May be China will not invade other country, coz CCP understands the cost of such moves. USA has done some big blunders by attacking & interfering in other countries and that is the reason China may not opt to dominate the world that way.
But slowly due to the rising assertiveness of China regarding protecting its claimed assets and not respecting its neighbor's claim at the same point of time is a clue that China may in future start dominating Asia region.
Yes, USA has no business in meddling with SCS issue, but at the same time China's historical claim of the SCS is also absurd and will provide a loop hole to others in claiming the sea and affecting many free navigation zones, and may be resulting in future conflicts.
And I agree with your view regarding Mercantilism, it might be the best way to increase China's influence in the world.
