What's new

Su 30 MKI (Growler!!!)

It wouldn't mind, whether, ground, air sea based..lol

Anyway, love this cockpit

will the SU-30MKI's cockpit ever look like this or even close?? anyone got any pics of the latest SU-30MKI's cockpit (tranche 3)

The picture shows a Su 30 MKI, fitted with Knirti SAP 518 ECM pods on the wingtips and the Knirti SAP 14 jamming pod on the centerline weapon station. With these pods the Flankers can be used for similar EW roles like the F18 Growler.

Here a model of MKI with these pods and a possible weapon load shown at Maks 2009:

Some more infos and pics about the pods and a simulation of Su 35BM (at the end of the article, Sukhoi Su-35BM / Su-35 'Deep Modernisation' Manufacturer Video), that shows how these pods will be used. The Video is also showing the Novator R-100 missile and the Klimov S117 engine and could give a hint about the MKI upgrades:

I don't think this is a SU-30MKI (remember the I in MKI is for INDIA, whic includes French, Indian and Isreali aeronautics)

Folks its just a god damn jamming pod installed on MKI - how on earth can you compare it to the growler which was designed for electronic warfare.

You guys love to make mountain out of a mole -- i was expecting something more !

This may not be as capable as Growler but it can do similar tasks, electronic warfare.

The SAP-518 is an advanced jamming pod intended for heavy strike fighters such as Russian Air Force Sukhoi Su-30MK, and Su-32/34 and Indian Air Force Su-30MKI. Its primary mission is to jam advanced air defenses during ground attack missions imitating electronic signatures of various aircraft while generating false targets within enemy sensors. The SAP-518 covers NATO surface-to-air and air-to-air threats in the G-J bands and is deployed in two underwing or wingtip pods. Installed on a single aircraft along with the SAP-14 jamming pod is considered similar to the United States ALQ-99 jamming system installed on the EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft. The electronic warfare system has been developed and manufactured by the Kaluzhsky Scientific Research Radio-Technical Institute (KNIRTI). Its existence was revealed at the MAKS 2009 airshow.

The KNIRTI L005S Sorbtsiya-S mid/high band defensive jammer is carried in wingtip pods. Unlike competing Western designs, this system uses a steerable mainlobe to maximise the Jam/Signal ratio at the threat emitter. The design uses a wideband phased array and dielectric lens arrangement (KNIRTI).

Why, isn't the Growler just an F18 Super Hornet with added EW pods?
The Isrealis useing F16 with similar jamming pods in the same roles, again just the addition of pods. The only real difference should be the more capable jamming techs of the US and Israelis pods.

It is an prototype of the Su 30 version that we and later Malaysia got, the base is the same, differences are only other avionics.

No its not, it is structurally different it has ECM gear in its tail communications countermeasures system in the gun bay. System antennas are installed on the port and starboard sides of the nose, the engine bays, in the wingtip pods and to the aft of the cockpit, providing 360 deg cover.A fibre-optic network switch links all devices to the AMC (Advanced Mission Computer) - stuff you won't find on the F/A-18 E/F variants. In addition, the Weapons Systems Officers (WSO) has larger screens and more dials, switches and buttons.

That are only minor internal changes, but the fighter was not redesigned at all! That's why they simply can be wired to use the same internal systems and external pods, like it was the case for Australia and do you want to say that such internal changes can't be done in the Su 30 / 34 too?

The EA-18G its a brand new plane sharing 90% of the Original SuperHornet..

if India chooses the SuperHornet along with some Growlers they will have all of the futuristic Electronic Warfare gadgets Boin will outfit the EA-18G like

INCANS: a Interference Cancellation system that will allow voice communication while jamming enemy communications, a capability not available on the EA-6B

Next Generation Jammer: cyber attack capabilities where the AESA radar is used to insert attack codes into remote systems, NGJ includes six AESA arrays for all around coverage.

The only real difference should be the more capable jamming techs of the US
The EA-18G its more advance than anything else in this planet(EW), its electronic warfare its capable enough to jam and get close to an F-22 Raptor without being detected first by the Raptor, thats called Active Stealth..

that's something neather the MKi or Rafale can claim...:yahoo:

Let's re-examine you initial post, you suggested the Growler was a Super Hornet with EW pods. I responded and said no, you can't turn a F/A-18 F into a EA-18G by merely hanging some pods off it.

There are structural differences, antennae, sensors and electronic equipment all around the aircraft. In addition, it has a more powerful computer connected by a fibre-optic network and the WSO has larger display and more complex MMI.The EA-18G is more than just a jammer, it is an electronic attack aircraft, its real capability is a secret and it is not for sale.

Whether or not a F/A-18 F can easily be modified to a EA-18G is only known to Boeing - if you think you know better please enlighten us.

Aaahhh...No. This topic has been discussed here before. Please look it up. But essentially, the EF-18 does not have 'active stealth'.

Excuse me, how much does it cost to take a joy ride in one of these planes??:what::partay:

Not per say but, I would guess that the EA-18G used some Jamin tech to avoid being shoot down by the F-22..:undecided:

do you have the link explaining the whole thing..:undecided:
