BBC Turkish, which previously claimed that inflation in Turkiye was more than 80%, now offers its employees a 20% raise. The workers decided to strike because of this attitude. In 2020, when the official inflation was 14.6 percent they increased employees wages by 7 percent. This year, again they presented an increase of 50 percent below the official figures, while official inflation was around 30.
While the salaries of civil servants and almost all private sector salaries in Turkiye were increased at the rate of inflation or more, journalists claiming to have hyperinflation in Turkey were offered the lowest salary increase in Turkiye, what an irony. Unfortunately, they were not valued even as much as the queen's dogs.
