Indian jailed in UAE for a kiss in India, years before

An Indian man has ended up in jail in Abu Dhabi – for kissing his then girlfriend at a party in India seven* years ago.

A photograph of the kiss has been used by the woman’s husband - who is divorcing her - to prove an affair between the two.

The husband claims that affair was rekindled in the UAE last year, Emirates 24/7 reports.

The 30-year-old MBA graduate was sentenced to 18 months in jail by the Court of First Instance in Abu Dhabi.

After serving six months, the sentence has been suspended pending an appeal.

The man, known as Suhail, met his ex-girlfriend, a Pakistani living in the UK, when she went to Mumbai on holiday. They lost touch when she went back to the UK.

But they met up again in Abu Dhabi in 2011 after she relocated there with her husband.

Suhail claims he did not have a physical relationship with the woman, did not know she was married and did not even know her real name.

The husband has filed for divorce in the UK based on the allegations.
