Twenty-five oraganisations, including the Sector Commanders Forum and the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, have called a 24-hour nationwide shutdown starting 6pm on Friday to resist Hifazat-e-Islams long march towards Dhaka and press for ban on the Jamaat-e-Islami.
More information on the programme will be disclosed at a press conference at 10.30am on Friday in TSC (at the Dhaka University), Acting President of the Ekatorrer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir told bdnews24.com
Earlier, the Hifazat-e-Islam, a radical Jamaat-e-Islami-backed group based in Chittagong, announced to stage a rally in the capital on Apr 6 after marching from Chittagong demanding justice against atheists and blasphemous bloggers of the Shahbaghs Ganajagaran Mancha.
The opposition BNP and a key Jamaat ally, on Tuesday announced moral support for the Hifazat-e-Islam programme.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir on Wednesday said Khaleda Zia would have to shoulder responsibility for any anarchy caused during the programme.
He also talked about taking necessary steps to maintain law and order situation on that day.
