I watched a talk about the South Sea Issue and China-India relationship given by a professor in National University of Singapore. He has very good relations with many high-level officials of China, US and India. He is also a friend of Dalai Lama. He may be capable influence the strategic policy of China. This talk was given about one year ago.
The talk was in a very casual way. It's difficult to give a summary. I only list some interesting points given by the professor:
1) The rise of China will totally change the world. The current balance (military balance and economic balance) in the west Pacific area are being changed. US do not have the desire or money to fight with China for other small countries, like Japan or Philippine. US need China to cooperate in many fields.
2) Only three countries, US, China and India, have the power and potential to influence the Asia-Pacific in the future. Japan is only a second-level country, who can only relay on US.
3) The time is on China's side. China is not hurry to solve the South Sea island issue and China-India border disputes.
4) China and India have the same goal: modernization. The two countries need to stand together to change the western-lead international orders. China and India need to tie up to change current currency system. China and India need to build strategic relationship as they have the same history (colonized or half-colonized memory) and same interests.
5) The leaders of China and India have very clear and smart views of two countries' future. The cooperation between two countries will benefit each other. The border dispute will last for a very long period. Both governments are now devoting to manage the dispute rather than to solve the dispute.
6) Some media in China (more particular, Global Time) and India are nationalistic and short-view. They made a lot of noise, which may hurt two countries in the future.
7) The best thing that US and other western countries want to see is the war between India and China. If that happen, western countries can rule the world for another 200 years.
