Stop using force against our fishermen: India to Lanka

these so called fishermen are mostly doign illegal acts like - sending drugs to lanka, smuggling , some time even distribute the weapon for ltte.

lanka had hard time for years now they have peace and if some evil in the dress of fishermen try to go to lanka its not right.

if it come to infiltrating

lanka must warn first ask them to retreat or go back.

if they dont listen - they have all the right to shoot them for their national security.......

these guys can go to lnaka throguh legal chanel .

First of all the fishermen were not going to srilanka.
they where fishing near the maritime border.
And now for your contention that they were carrying drugs and weapons
srilankan navy shot them after they got into the fishing ship.
they had the chance to check the ship whatever the matter.
Now please why they were shot when they had the option of taking the fishermen into custody??

Sri Lanka Navy repatriated four (04) Indian fishermen along with their fishing dhow at the Indo-Sri Lanka Maritime Boundary on 9th January 2011.

The Indian fishermen who had been drifting in the Northern seas of Sri Lanka were rescued and provided necessary facilities by SL Navy. They were accompanied to IMBL by SLNS “Wickrama II”and handed over to Indian authorities on board Indian Coast Guard ship “ Avvaiyyar”.

A Naval patrol team attached to SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command whilst checking fishing boats arrested two (02) persons along with a haul of 26Kgs cannabis hidden inside their fishing boat at Thaulpadu area on 07th January 2011.

you see this is what they should have done.

if they gave them warning and these fishermen got in to lankan waters .

although sad but lankan army have all the right to shoot , they dont want any more terrorist infiltrating.

Actually they dont have the right. Its not that fishermen with their nets are going to invade Sri Lanka. And you know what most of these happen around Kartchatheevu, the area which was given by Indira Gandhi as a free gift to Sri Lanka on the promise that Tamil fishermen who have been using it as their fishing ground from ancient times will be allowed to fish there. But the SL Navy being such an unprofessional force dont honor that agreement.

And in cases where they dont shoot, they empty the diesel in the boats, cut the nets and set the fishermen drifting in the sea.

Actually I dont have the fvcking right to blame the SL Navy when my own govt sitting in Delhi is blind to these atrocities and my navy is turning a blind eye to all these.

Sitting in Delhi, dont act as if you know everything that goes on here down south. For God sake please.

And it is not like that Lankan fishermen dont come into Indian waters, but no such thing is done by the Indian Navy which doesnt show its 'might' against fishermen.

Indian navy is of no us if its citizens are being attacked by a petty navy which uses ship leased form it.

India and Tamil Nadu should take action to educate its fisherman to STAY IN INDIAN WATERS. This is not so hard in this day and age with GPS.

Tamil Nadu "fisherman" have been involved in

- smuggling illegal drugs to Sri Lanka
- smuggling arms, ammunition and bomb making equipment to Sri Lanka
- smuggling people from SL to India and vice versa, exploiting the plight of refugees
- poaching in Sri Lankan waters
- destroying the fishing nets of Sri Lankan fishermen in Sri Lankan waters

One wonders how many Sri Lankans have been killed by all the guns, ammunition and bombs smuggled to SL and given to the LTTE by these Tamil Nadu "fisherman" - the leaders of Tamil Nadu took no action against sponsoring terrorism in Sri Lanka over the last 20 years.

There was a time when the SL government raised concerns about LTTE training camps in Southern India, Tamil Nadu in particular and India's answer was to do nothing.

well central govt. cannot do anything without the aproval of state govt.

As I understand the agreement, THEY DO NOT HAVE A 'RIGHT' TO FISH THERE, only DRY THEIR FISHING NETS.

its not even clear whether it was within indian waters.
If it was within indian waters then its gonna be trouble for srilanka.
Evn if it was in srilankan waters india granted kachathevu to srilanka with the assuarance that indian fishermen would be allowed to fish their.
so in this case srilankan navy broke the term.
in any case killing the fishermen was in no way justifiable.
