but it is documented in history books across the world that the nationalists tried to cut a deal with japan in 1931 to sell manchuria so they'll leave the rest of the country alone.

then in 1937 they tried to cut a deal with japan again, even allowing japanese immigrants and businessmen to safely leave the country.

manchuria in the 1920's and 30's had most of china's industry, can you imagine china selling Guangzhou and Shanghai right now? no, that's unimaginable, but the nationalist party did the equivalent when they sold Manchuria to japan.
