I do not think French developed a replacement for the Exocet. Western navies never felt the need for anti-ship weapons. They were confident in their naval aviation prowess.

On the other hand Russia wanted anti-ship missiles to challenge Western naval power.

i do say all commercial captains will take precautions , and in case of war the most important thing is to keep the supply of Oil , and if we can hit your assets floating on the edge of our coast line than how you plan to ht those ships ? dude you have to accept that if we have the fleet consist of the above list i mentioned you can have a blockade more than 24 hours , if you want to live in denial ... than sure

India can enforce a naval blockade in humpteen scenarios. naval warfare comes down to naval aviation. can pakistani air force protect pakistani ships 200 km away from the Pakistani coast ?

Their main role as the name implies is like a floating airport, so it derives all its force and significance from the air force it carries. a fact that makes it one of the most vulnerable platforms out there, since one disabling hit to the deck's runway and the aircraft carrier loses all its significance or even the essence of its existence. Without any airplane taking off or landing it is just a floating huge piece of steal. It takes enormous resources for its protection, and the slightest potent breach of them jeopardizes the whole battle group which in a synergistic way also counts on the aircrafts of the carrier for some protection.
So any sea skimming, radar evading potent cruise missile or better yet a ballistic missile capable of hitting a moving target like the Iranian one, can paralyze an AC and make its escort an easy prey.

I didn't say it was useless, the other dude did. Barking up the wrong tree here..
Even if Scud is 'old' you can still do nasty stuff with it ans force your opponent to investing in a missile defence. (i.e. a big expense, which is money that cannot also be spent on tanks, troops, training etc)
