No doubt emboldened by Sri Lanka's new government. Ranil Wickremasinghe is an appalling prime minister who is taking Sri Lanka down the same path he did when he was last in power. Meanwhile Sri Lanka's lingerie designer foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera is running around screaming at the former administration and promising to crucify the people that ended the war in Sri Lanka, and now this. Once again India has been givenleverage over Sri Lankan affairs after the defeat of the Tamil Tigers by none other than moronic Sri Lankans like Ranil and his followers. Sri Lanka is basically effed.

Sri Lanka's Tamil leaders charge "historical genocide"

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lanka's ethnic Tamil leaders on Tuesday accused successive governments of systematic acts of genocide against the minority Tamil community and called on the United Nations to investigate.

The Tamil-controlled Northern Provincial Council called on the Geneva-based U.N. Human Rights Council to investigate what it claims are historic violations intended "to destroy the Tamil people."

The resolution comes amid suspicion among Tamil leaders that the U.N. rights council may not release an investigative report on allegations of war crimes against the Sri Lankan government and Tamil Tiger rebels during the final phase of the country's civil war in 2009.

The U.N council is scheduled to release its report in March but with improving relations between Sri Lanka's newly-elected government and the United States — the main proponent of the investigation— it is believed that the report may be postponed.

The council resolution says majority ethnic Sinhalese-controlled governments in Colombo since the country became independent from Britain in 1948 have carried out state sponsored pogroms, sexual violence, cultural and linguistic destruction.

The council's resolution says the U.N. investigation must extend to its charge of genocide. "The U.N Security Council should refer the situation in Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court for prosecutions based on war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide."

The government spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment.

Sri Lanka's north council demands international probe into Tamil genocide

Moved by Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, the Northern Provincial Council resolution details episodes of oppression in Sri Lanka.

Colombo: Sri Lanka's Tamil-dominated Northern Provincial Council on Tuesday adopted a motion, demanding an international probe into the genocide of Tamils during the brutal civil war in the country.

Council member MK Shivajilingam proposed the motion which was adopted with Chief Minister CV Wigneswaran in the chair.

The resolution demanded the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva to subject Tamil genocide to an investigation.

The resolution came in the backdrop of the new Sri Lankan government's policy of replacing an international investigation with a local mechanism to probe the alleged war crimes committed during the military operations that crushed the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in 2009.

The Tamil National Alliance, which rules the north, opposed the domestic investigation and demanded a full-fledged international probe.

The resolution adopted by the Northern Provincial Council noted that the obligation to prevent and punish genocide under the Genocide Convention should not be a political choice but one of binding international law.

Sri Lankan government has denied the Tamil genocide claims put forward by the pro-LTTE diaspora.

The report on Sri Lanka by the investigation team of theOffice of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will be taken up for discussion at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva in March.

The former Mahinda Rajapaksa government had opposed the investigation and did not allow the UN investigators entry.

The new government led by Maithripala Sirisena has also pledged to continue with the same policy of non-cooperation but would engage UNHCR to set up a domestic investigation.

Sri Lanka to return lands occupied by Military troops

12 Feb, 2015 18:36:43

Feb 12, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka new administration is to return lands and buildings which occupied by the military troops in the time of Tamil tiger war for security reasons, a spokesman said today.

“Government policy is to return property covers the entire island, not only the north," D. M. Swaminadan, Minister of Resettlement, Reconstruction and Hindu Religious Affairs, said at a press conference.

The properties and lands in the north and east were taken over by military troops to provide defense against the attacks by Tamil tigers.

About 1000 acres from Palay area in Jaffna which was maintained by the Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Air Force as high security zones were decided to release in different stages.

As the first step of this measure, the government will release 220 acres in Valikamam East Divisional Secretariat Division to establish a modern village for resettlement of 1,022 families displaced by the 30 year Tamil tiger war. Each family is to get 20 perch land and financial to construct a house under this project.

The modern village will also have a school, a preschool, a hospital, religious places and a community center.

The minister said the remaining 780 acres of land will also be used to resettle the people displaced by the war.
Plantations Industries Minister Lakshman Kiriella said the military had occupied over 11,000 acres during the war.

"The former regime also had released some lands and now it's down to about 6,000 acres of which we will release another 1,000 acres," he said.

"People living in refugee camps have deeds in Jaffna but they are in camps because their properties are occupied by the security forces."

The government will also release the lands of 500 acres under the control of the Air Force in the Panama area in the Eastern Province to land less people in the area except the 25 acres of land in which buildings are now being constructed.

Buildings in high security zones adjoining the President's House and the prime minister's 'Temple Trees' resident also will be released.

No need to cry like a little baby. Just watch Sri Lanka go down the drain day after day. Hooray for Sirisena and Ranil! Economy down the drain, infrastructure down the drain, country's independence down the drain, pandering to Tamil extremists, reducing security in the north. Niyamai ohoma yang.

Enjoy the release of the 81 boats to Tamil Nadu poachers, so they can rape Sri Lankan resources again. Like a fool you were screaming at Mahinda for releasing the fishermen. Sirisena is releasing the fishermen AND the trawlers as well.

Clap yourself on the back and sing Sirisena and Ranils praises.
