Sri Lankan President invited for Commonwealth Games closing ceremony

Oct 11, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been invited to participate in the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in India.
Sri Lankan President has been invited as an "honoured guest" for the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games to be held on October 14, an Indian official confirmed to Indian media.
State-owned English weekly Sunday Observer said that the invitation to the President was intended to show India's support for the Sri Lanka's bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Indian media reports also said that Sri Lanka's External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris is to visit India on Wednesday (13) to hold discussions with his Indian counterpart S.M. Krishna.
Prof. Peiris is reportedly scheduled to deliver the R. K. Mishra Memorial Lecture on "Growth, Equity and Security: Constitutional Imperatives for South Asia" on October 15.
Meanwhile, Krishna is scheduled to arrive in Colombo later in the month on an official visit.
During his visit he is expected to tour the North to observe the progress of the resettlement of displaced Tamil people in the former war-torn region and hold discussions on the utilization of Indian grants.
