Well according to the written, oral and genealogical evidence the forbearers of the Sinhalese race first migrated from what's now Gujarat and Punjab.. But it's plausible that much larger migrations later was primarily from what's now Eastern India Bengal and Orissa.. But this is not to say that there was a race of aboriginals already on the island when these settlers arrived

Amounting to overwhelming plausibility they could have been Austroloid's , Closely related to Dravidians but that's not scientifically proven nor was there any established civilization till the Sinhalese arrived.. So you could say the whole Sri Lankan civilization/identity close to 3000 years is basically founded on Sinhala background.. That is clearly evident.. All the other parallel arguments about long lost civilizations are hearsay and without valid proof either archaeological or otherwise

No it's not contradictory their are many ancestors to the Sinhalese including the indigenous there fore it is not wrong to say their ancestors arrived from India.
