Sri Lanka to procure New Aircraft

.
Yes since we are the final decision makers for lanka.
not final decision makers but the threatening neighbour. when did pakistan or even china threaten sri lank to not buy somethiing and then buy their own products instead. thats known as a weird form of bullying. in simpler terms its like me saying you are not allowed to buy your friends iphone but you can but my android instead. best way to keep both sides happy is to ignore both and go for something neither can argue with. sri lanka cant afford americain or european kit so russain kit is the only option.

Ok, so when Indians got there, did you heard them pressuring Lankans ? There isn't any official statement about the pressure thing from SL side, it is just coined by Pakistani media, stating it as obvious.

Sri Lanka's best choice is either LCA or Migs. Both the jets brings lots of maintenance cost with them. JFs are never built for functioning in sea.
would you think you would hear them saying they are being preasured not to buy something?.
the lca is near enough similar to the jf-17. so the mig29m is the only option.

. .
so if an indian said sri lanka was buying jf-17's would that make it more credible?

The Sri Lankan government is preparing to issue a request for information (RFI) in support of a programme to procure multirole combat aircraft, IHS Jane’s news agency reported.

The programme, featuring the acquisition of between 8-12 aircraft, will be pursued through an inter-government agreement after Cabinet approval for the purchase was given on 11 August.

An official involved in the Sri Lankan defence procurement system said the government has yet to make any decision on the make of aircraft. IHS Jane’sunderstands that it is likely that the RFI will be followed by a tender to procure the platform from an international supplier, although a timeframe is not confirmed.

State news in Sri Lanka had earlier cited Cabinet spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka as saying that the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) required new combat aircraft to boost ageing inventories, maintain maritime security, and face any unexpected threat.

OP's Note

It's obvious that Sri Lanka would most probably procure the JF-17 unless of course Indian pressure would force Sri Lanka to purchase the Tejas Jet.

Yes. JF 17 deal was about to be signed. Many expected it to go ahead. But unexpectedly SLG had suddenly announced the deal was off. There is no doubt that India was behind it. They bickered about SL's choice to purchase JF-17 when Mahinda Rajapaksha was in power. But when he was gone, India actively persuaded the new government to abandoned it's plans.

Despite the fact that Islamic extremism is on the rise, Sri Lankan admire Pakistanis more than Indians. We still remember the support offered to us by the Pakistan when our soldiers were trapped in Jaffna peninsula in 1999/2000.
