The government is ready to seek Chinese assistance to generate artificial rains, Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said today.
Addressing a meeting at the opening ceremony of a Rural Health Centre at Koggalla in Ambalantota, he said the government had the courage to face any sort of challenge.
The drought is not a new experience to us. Temporary measures have been taken up in previous occasions to control the drought. But now we are ready not only to face the drought in advance but also to take advantage of it. Digging tanks deeper in drought periods is one such advantage. Discussions are being held with China now to get technological know how with the aim of introducing artificial rains, he said.
According to our culture we try to get rain through various rituals but there are times they too produce results. We are trying to get the worlds best technology to generate artificial rains, he said. (Sanath Gamage, Ambalangoda)
