I have heard one can certainly see the natural inspiration and "energy" of the peak when you are there that made it holy (helped by the summit mark resembling a footstep). I believe the buddhists believe the footprint to be of the Buddha...and this concept of progenitor mark lead to the naming of Adam's (garden of Eden) peak in the Christian/Islamic perspective. SL truly in many ways is modern day garden of Eden....many believe it was the original one too.

Yeah, The island has two religious places of importance that followers of all 4 major faiths congregate together.. One is Adams peak the other Kataragama Shrine Where Hindu's, Buddhists and Muslims visit

Some call it "India light", Culturally similar without the crowds and chaos, But you'd be surprised how different it is from India as well, From life styles of the natives, music, food to general outlook on life itself.. Most probably because of it's more laid back islander vibe and such a diverse cultural melting pot for such a small land mass

Has any Sri Lankan been to Kerala. I feel it looks almost similar. Many Sri Lankan also sound like a Keralite, when they speak English. In India we call it Mallu accent. Even most of the food preparation & taste is close to Kerala style.

Though you border Tamil Nadu of India, I mostly felt we should find a way to connect Kerala with SriLanka. I think Srilanka probably is a advanced model of Kerala, a different variety with the same essence or even the other side of the same coin.

Do you people also feel the same.

I am sure India will build it for free. Afterall India took the thekedari of south asia.

These Bangladesis always come & poke into other countries discussion to paint India bad. Even if we never bring in BD in our discussion or have hatred, they barge in to show their hatred & jealousy if India is discussed. And when we give them back, they will start calling names, bringing in religion & say how wicked & cruel Hindus are without checking their acts.

Before calling yourself peaceful, go search almost every Bangladeshi in this forum, who promotes hatred for no reason & shamelessly call Indians nasty. Why do you come & disturb people having civil & meaningful discussion & turn it hostile.

Most definitely, And i have stated the exact thing, Visiting Kerala is like any Sri Lankan country side, Just more crowded and a bit chaotic, I'd say Sri Lanka is a mixture of Kerala and South East Asia as regards to the people and food, Even festivals and of cause ancient martial arts.. And yes surprisingly not that similar to TN, Except may be Jaffna, But even there people are way more laid back

What most people do not acknowledge is that there are lots of people of Malayali origin in the island just that over centuries they have come to identify themselves as Tamil, During the 15th and 16th centuries the Dutch shipped in thousands of indentured/slave labor mainly from the Malabar coast (And Corromandel coast) to work in vast tobacco plantations in Northern Sri Lanka.. And those people now constitute as the majority Tamil population in the North and East but in reality most are either Malayali or Telingu.. Sri Lankan Tamils in the Jaffna peninsular didn't have strong connections to these people until the 19th century when Tamil nationalism came on to the forte

Nah SL Tamils sound quite different to me from anything found in South India (when speaking english or otherwise). Though yes Sinhalese and others in SL also have their own particular accents too when speaking English (good SL friend of mine back in High School in Singapore sounded nothing like an Indian accent anywhere, but definitely not western one either)....compared to say Kerala (who are quite nasal aspirated compared to the region, I have been told I sound quite "Keralite" accent for my Tamil lol by my own family).

In fact one of the nicest accents (when speaking Tamil) I heard was from a Sinhala lass hehe...closest I could think of is if Telugu person in India learns Tamil formally....but still different and unique in many respects I can't quite put a finger to exactly (stuff like what is said more quickly and slowly, tones etc). But then again, Tamil itself has many regional accents to begin with so its not surprising some lasting flavour is there when a non-Tamil learns it and picks it up.

I guess I got to visit Colombo etc to meet more varied assortment of SL people though to get a better idea of the SL accents.
