Sri Lanka President arrives in China
Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport in Beijing early Tuesday morning on an official visit at the invitation of the Chinese government.
Executive Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Zhang Zhijun warmly received the President and the Sri Lankan delegation at the airport.
President Rajapaksa is on a four-day official visit to China on an invitation extended by his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao during the bilateral meeting held in St. Petersburg, Russia this June.
During his stay in Beijing and Shenzhen, President Rajapaksa will hold bilateral meetings with the Chinese President Hu Jintao and the Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.
The President will also participate in the opening ceremony of the World University Games, known as XXVI Summer Universiade and held in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China from August 12-23 as an honored guest.
Sri Lanka's External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris, Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Sri Lanka Ambassador in China Ranjith Uyangoda and Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Mrs. Yang Xiu Ping were also present.
