Sri Lanka Navy saves 18 Indian Fishermen in Distress in the Seas

Sri Lankan Naval personnel attached to SLNS Wasaba of the Northern Naval Command rescued 12 Indian fishermen when their trawlers were run aground in the seas off Delft Island on 19th December 2011 while Naval personnel attached to SLNS Elara of the same Command rescued 06 Indian fishermen in a trawler run aground in the seas off Analative Island on the same day.

Sri Lanka Navy rescued the fishermen in distress and provided them food and medical assistance after bringing them to safety.

These Indian trawlers were poaching in Sri Lankan waters when they ran aground in the Northern seas.

In spite of exaggerated allegations in the Indian media accusing the Navy of unleashing violence on Indian fishermen, it is the Sri Lanka Navy that has come to the rescue of the Indian fishermen in distress in Sri Lankan waters on many occasions. Sri Lanka Navy has time and again saved the lives of Indian fishermen when they were in distress in Sri Lankan waters. The latest being the rescue of 04 Indian fishermen on 18th December in the seas off Delft Island.

Another Incident....

Sri Lanka Navy rescues 4 Indian Fishermen in Distress

Sri Lankan Naval personnel attached to SLNS Wasamba of the Northern Naval Command rescued four Indian fishermen whose boat had run aground off the coast of Delft Island on 18th December 2011.

The boat with four Indian fishermen onboard was drifted ashore being caught in the rough sea conditions. It had run aground and been partly sunk when the Navy promptly arrived on the scene and rescued the lives of four Indian fishermen. They were given first aid and food at SLNS Wasamba.

Contrary to various Indian media allegations that the Sri Lanka Navy unleashes violence on Indian fishermen, the Sri Lanka Navy has always come to the rescue of Indian fishermen who were in distress in Sri Lanka waters. This incident also speaks volumes of the helping nature of the Sri Lanka Navy.
