Pointless thread, I'm sorry. What Ranil Wickremasinghe is going to do is to reduce the size of the Sri Lankan armed forces, remove them from the north of the country, let Tamil extremists have a free run and basically turn Sri Lanka into a feckless country that depends entirely on India and the USA.

What's your problem with Muslims, Christians, Dalits, North Easterners, Pakistanis? The former three - are they not citizens of India and the latter is your neighbour.

Which country is planing to attack SL or SL is planing to defend itself against who ?

When you start building a Strong Defence force WITHOUT any real enemies, you then start to manufacture enemies.

That is what happened to WW2 Japan and then to Pakistan.

Instead of winding down the forces after winning the internal civil war, SL will make a serious blunder if it starts building up its defence forces. The eventual casualties will be SL civilians like the pakistani's if this trend continues for too long.

This fool Godman is posting pointless photos trying to revive this thread. Who wants to see pictures of a building contruction? The project was even halted under Ranil Wickremesinghe while he allowed US embassy officials to visit the site.

Last time Ranil Wickremesinghe was in power he tried to downgrade Sri Lanka's armed forces so you have nothing to fear. He is already allowing Indian fishermen to plunder Sri Lanka's waters with impunity, and even allowed Indian fishermen to freely come across the Palk Straits and retrieve their impounded boats so they can continue their poaching.

Any country needs to keep a strong military and Sri Lanka is situated in a strategic position
It was stupid to continue keep the same numbers after the war but remember it allows to reduce unemployment and the government can show that they reduced unemployment in statistics.

The right thing to do now is reduce unnecessary manpower by reducing recruitment and modernize the forces. Sri Lanka should move to a better trained and modern force

Being poor does mean that you can steal. If that is the case why doesn't India allow Pakistani fisherman and Bangladeshi fishermen to poach in Indian waters? Shouldn't the Indian government "have its heart in the right place"? Indian fishermen have destroyed their fishing grounds and now they want to destroy Sri Lanka's. Thousands of Indian trawlers are poaching in Sri Lankan waters on a daily basis, stealing Sri Lankan resources with impunity. This is unacceptable.

India boasts about having one of the biggest and fastest growing economies in the world, and yet finds it necessary to plunder the resources of a far smaller country. Shameful.

SL military cannot really do anything if US or China or India or Russia decides to attack it for its "Strategic position".

That being the case, its better to form regional alliance like NATO etc. to mitigate any risk of military attack. Not build stronger military.

When the strength of the military w.r.t to the civilians goes beyond a certain tipping point, there is no way you can put that genie back into the bottle. Then you will just have to get used to having the military interfere in political matters. Fiji being another example.

History has 100 such examples. Those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.

As you have rightly said, the move should be to reduce the strength, improve the training and modernize the foRce. Not quantity bUt QUALITY.
