Bangladesh raises Special protection battalion
The Bangladesh Police raised an elite unit responsible for ensuring security to the countrys Prime Minister, President and visiting dignitaries. The unit named, Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBn) is to serve alongside the Special Security Force (SSF), the President Guard Regiment (PGR) and the Special Branch (SB) of Police.
Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBn) has an authorised strength of 1,400 personnel in two battalions headed by a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
In addition two Superintendents, 22 Additional Superintendents, 20 Assistant Superintendents, 60 Inspectors, 144 Sub-Inspectors and 207 Assistant Sub-Inspectors have also been authorised for this elite protection force.
The SPBn is deployed at the Prime Ministers Official Residence at Ganobhaban as well as Presidents official residence at Bangabhaban, Prime Ministers Office and other important locations.
Besides being equipped with sophisticated weapons, armoured vehicles and specialised training to cope with threats against VVIPs the SPBn also has Quick Response Teams (QRT), sniper units, Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU), technical wing, dog squad, sweeping teams, heavy armoured group, intelligence and surveillance wing, planning and coordination, coordination and protection groups to effectively work in a coordinated approach.
