It is a good day for democratic rights. However, I have to say, just like East Timor, having a 'guerrilla' movement/war waged by non-Muslims is one of the main reason for both East Timor and S. Sudan to find success. If there was justice in this world then Kashmir and Palestine would be truly independent states a long time ago. But that's not how the world works.
This is another victory of the media war. What the Western media--basically American media--says become 'the truth' very fast. We humans take the path of least resistance almost all the time. Why would people living in, say, South America or the Far East care what is -really- happening when something is given to them in a condensed, 'bite size' way about 'the truth' about what happened in South Sudan?
Now, I am NOT saying that South Sudanese did not deserve their own state. I am exposing the hypocrisy and the media-influenced 'truth' in the world. A mere one news source like the NY Times keeps coming up with damaging news stories 'leaked by the US officials' almost every Monday and that becomes 'the truth' about Pakistan almost world-wide, as an example.
As to those Muslims here complaining about dividing their land and resources. Well, so long as you have the mentality of this Shia-Sunni etc, etc you deserve it. You would rather fight Iran over a few measly islands in the Gulf than see the larger picture. But look at the concerted ways both Europe and America influence world policies with media war when their own interests align despite being from so many nationalities, ethnicities, and even religious factions.
