The South–North Water Transfer Project, also translated as the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is a multi-decade infrastructure mega-project China. It aims to ultimately channel at least 50 billion cubic meters of fresh water annually from southern China to the more arid and industrialized north through canal systems since there is very unbalanced water distribution in China.

. . . .
I wonder if any DEMOCRATIC country would dream to finish such huge project. :yahoo: for CCP

Not a freaking chance。

These countries will spend 10 years discussing the viability and feasibility of a single lane road。

The next 10 years will be spent debating the necessity of the road。

Another 10 years are needed to line the pockets of lawyers、accountants etc。

It is highly likely that by the time the road gets built,if ever, you find yourself bed ridden awaiting the call of the mighty god。:D

Mind you though, these countries build their war machines super fast。

Epic project indeed. But I hope the government had done a foresight environmental evaluate for that

if you were Chinese, just baidu it, there are loads of environment pretect laws and methods about the water transfer projects. instead of you worry here and give out ignorant comments.

all those canals should have been solar topped like in Gujarat

Just show my concerns. You know such a big project has great geographical and social influence.Sometimes they are some unexpected,Sanmenxia reservoir is an example. But yes,I know the projectors must be more considerate and professional than I am.It was my fault.:coffee:

No need to worry. Canal is not like dam. It doesn't have negative effect on environment.

Sadly I would have to agree with you
Although the timeline you mentioned is a little bit to much

I will just add a bit more information to alleviate some of the concerns.

It is important to differentiate canal project and dam project. Canal project such as the South-North Water transfer's main accomplishment is connecting two major bodies of water in China together. This means if one water body is suffer flood or drought, the other body can transfer out/in water to alleviate the issue. Basically, upon completion, China would effectively have a single giant body of water instead of two separate one. This allow better handling of local weather variations such as drought and flood.

Water transfer canal for a country is like piping a city, when playing sim city people will realized how important water is not only for social but industrial and commercial development :D...this will definitely boost China norther economic even greater.
