South China Sea: Beijing attacks US 'trouble-making'

Chinese state media have hit out at US "trouble-making" on the South China Sea, two days after Beijing summoned a US diplomat on the issue.

One commentary told the US to "shut up" on the subject, while another said it had "deservedly evoked curses".

The response came after the US State Department said it was "closely" monitoring increased tensions in the South China Sea.

It also expressed concern over China's move to militarise a disputed island.

"In particular, China's upgrading of the administrative level of Sansha City and establishment of a new military garrison there covering disputed areas of the South China Sea run counter to collaborative diplomatic efforts to resolve differences and risk further escalating tensions in the region," acting deputy spokesman Patrick Ventrell said in a statement on Friday.

Sansha City lies on Woody Island in the Paracel Islands, which China has controlled since a battle in 1974 with Vietnam. Taiwan also claims the islands, whose population numbers only a few thousand, mostly fishermen.

The city was established in June as China's administrative base for the whole South China Sea area, including the disputed territories of the Spratly Islands and the Scarborough Shoal.

'Instigating'

Beijing summoned the US embassy's deputy chef de mission Robert Wang on Saturday to express "strong dissatisfaction" over the US comments.

And on Monday a commentary in the overseas edition of the People's Daily - the Communist Party mouthpiece - went further.

"The statement by the US side confuses right and wrong, strongly misleads public opinion, sends the wrong signal and and should be sternly refuted," it said. "We can completely shout to the US: Shut up."

China Daily, in its editorial, also accused the US of "outright trouble-making".

"If the White House is interested in restoring peace in the South China Sea, it should talk the real trouble-makers into behaving. The truth, however, is that it has been instigating the other countries in the disputes and even arming them, while blaming China for its defensive moves."

China lays claim to a U-shaped swathe of the South China Sea, overlapping areas claimed by the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Brunei and Malaysia.

There are thought to be significant oil and gas reserves below parts of the sea that are subject to ownership disputes.

In recent years, tensions over the issue have increased amid growing assertiveness from China over its maritime claims.

This year ties between Beijing and both Manila and Hanoi have been frayed over separate South China Sea rows.

Last month, the Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries failed for the first time in the bloc's 45-year history to issue a joint statement because of rows over the maritime disputes

Are you relying on U.S help in this matter?Really?Don't you understand that all U.S huffs and puffs have only one reason:because China is a rival and potential enemy of U.S,so they can see Vietnam and other countries as measures to put pressure on China.
One piece of advise:U.S never cares about anyone,it goes were its interests goes.If you guys have problem in South China sea,you better settle it out with help of only regional countries in there,Philippines,Vietnam,China and others.

As you know U.S always "Country First" and whatever its does is only for America's interests. Nothing more, nothing less. Why do you think that Viet Nam rely on U.S help anyway?

With or without Viet Nam still goes on and no matter what conditions its will be. Viet Nam has been through hell for years to dealt with wars over and over. Nothing new, and nothing scare of.

Yes interests comes at first for all countries, but here is the problem:To achieve its interests,U.S puts in nose in internal affairs of other countries,if she couldn't achieve the goals, sanctions and threats come next, and at last maybe a military attack.
Don't get me wrong,I'm completely neutral on this issue,I'm not taking any sides here(unlike some Indian or Pakistani members) and I'm not judging anyone.I'm just saying U.S is not saying these words for sake of Viet Nam.For example,If China was a U.S ally and Vietnam was its rival or enemy,U.S would certainly side with China,no matter who is right and who is wrong.

At last,I didn't say Viet Nam is counting on U.S here,it was more like a question.Anyway,I hope this ends without any wars, because its only innocent civilians who die in the middle

Yes, U.S already did during in 1979 provided China spies satellite and let China attack Viet Nam.

I'm more than happy if that case solve in peaceful, seems to me that China will not giving up on its claims. Day by day China acted from bad to worst eventually.

Yes, Americans dont care interests of other countries. All the things which the America is doing for interests of its: the U.S has said that she has "national interests" in SCS, where a route of 1/2 the world's total goods through it, and there are 1.2 trillion of U.S goods every year...
What made you think that Americans are acting to help Vietnam?

Some Vietnamese are gleeful because they are deluded, due to lack of their education, due to their loss of history.

Poor they don't know what they are, who they are and where they are from... they are miserably lost.

They are failed to see Agent Orange is still impacting them, weapons left by US army are still devastating them...

Their gleefulness is just hilarious.

So China builds an artificial reef, they then put troops on it extend it and now want to call it a city the US calls it BS no wonder the ccp run papers are going beserk.

Really though China should try and work on one island at a time, when you can control an island 180k away then perhaps its time to look at ones thousands of kilometers away.

If Vietnam can build infrastructures in her 40 occupied islands so can China with her 7. If China works on one island at a time like you suggested who knows what will happen to the rest of her properties here, since there are so many sea pirates in the area.

BTW our trainings off the Somalia coast a while back really come in handy now.

Yes, when China turns wild, we unload our nukes on a convenient target like the capital city of Vietnam just 150 km to our south :)

What for a load of BS!

If there is a prize for diplomacy, China will surely win the first prize for the worst performer of the year. Yes, China will win every year. Just look around you and count how many countries China still counts as a friend.
North Korea?
Pakistan?
That´s all.
Meanwhile North Korea trusts communist Vietnam more than communist China.

Yes, turn wild, and stick nukes in your @ss and blow up yourself!
