South Asian nations should work to alleviate poverty: PM Hasina to Pakistani High Commissioner

Many say he was a reluctant participant in the entire process and immediately wanted to reconcile. But then this lady is India’s poodle and ipso facto making entire Bangladesh one too.
Mujib didn’t even know an actual war was going on or that Bengalis had even a slight chance at winning. He just thought the civil unrest will make the west Pakistan people pressure their dictatorship govt to concede to awami league. Atleast that’s what I gathered after watching video interviews of people who were in charge or looking after him during his arrest in Pakistan.

.
Likewise you Bangladeshi youth are unaware of Bhola cyclone and the millions of casualties due to that.
Those casualties were also thrown in Pakistani army account, along with pictures of heaps of dead bodies, which were washed ashore by receding water, and were flooding casualties.

Well like I said, it is possible. But I have not seen any evidence for or against.

Interesting if true.

. .
Basically. But I don’t blame west Pakistani people. Just Bhutto the bastard and whoever was in charge. West Pakistani people didn’t know either what was happening

Basically Bhutto was not ready to accept a Bengali being the head of the govt. in Pakistan for some reason and wanted it all for himself. I still don't get this "idhar hum, udhar tum" business....

geography makes it infeasible to work with bangladesh on matters such as economy.
hence forth, a waste of time.

.
The high commissioner presented an original copy of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's message.

He also presented a photo album, photo of the painting and video footage of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's visit to Pakistan as Bangladesh's prime minister to attend the OIC (Organisation of Islamic Countries) summit in 1974.

Sheikh Hasina thanked the Pakistan high commissioner for handing over the historic souvenir related to the memories of Bangabandhu.
I am surprised at the rate of meetings between the PM and the Pakistani Ambassador. Ambassador Siddiqui is a successful diplomat. This is probably his 3rd meeting with the PM.

He has perhaps touched the sentiment of Hasina Bibi by presenting her the souvenir from Pakistan.

Anyway, past infighting between our two countries should be shoved away to create a better relationship in the future between the two.

.
I wasn't on about any of that.
After the withdrawal of Pakistan army , the Indian army was keeping peace in Dhaka and the rest of Bangladesh, and they were not interested. Countless "Rojakaar" , Bihari and other non Bengali were killed and raped by rampant Mukti Bahini . All that death toll was far higher than what was during the 9 month war .
Likewise Bangladesh went into chaos and mismanagement, resulting in famine which kind 2 million Bangladeshi.
All those deaths and atrocities were put into the account of Pakistan army ti hide incapacity of new Mujeeb government and to portray Mukti Bahini as angels.
That's how your 2 million killed and 20 million raped figures work.
There is a bangladeshi respectfully talking to us about a sensitive topic and you are telling him his own history. This attitude is the reason they separated from us. This attitude is why we are not allies.

Whatever the factual numbers it is us pakistanis that must apologize with empathy.

The world is globalized now. Your thinking is outdated.

Well it could be. However we should look at information first.

Pakistan's HC would not be meeting with Bangladesh PM if the Pakistan govt. held this same view.

Bangladesh is globally the second largest importer of Raw Cotton ($4.9B worth last year) and there are plenty of other categories where Pakistan could replace India as supplier. There are plenty of Pakistanis who are interested in these trade opportunities in Bangladesh. Re: cotton one day Pakistan will get over the current cotton deficit and become a net exporter.

Pakistans economic output was based on East Pakistan. Lol
Not entirely true.
Both sides benefited from mutual trade.
Raw materials produced in East Pakistan were bought by industrial base in West Pakistan. That was processed and manufactured then exported to foreign countries and also back to East Pakistan.
After 1971 , Bangladesh had to sell raw materials to India and other foreign countries, and buy back finished goods at higher prices than what they got from West Pakistan.
Likewise West Pakistan had to increase Agricultural output and import from other countries, and lost a finished goods market.

Agriculture was dominant economic output back then and still today. Agriculture output of the west didn’t compare to the East. Although you’re somewhat right but the major product (jute) was later processed in bd itself after Ayoub khan started adamjee jute mills. After independence state owned enterprises got effed for India’s benefit.

It is OK brother. Little things like these are part of brother misunderstanding brother.

I know the wounds on both sides for some are quite deep.

Yet we must put 1971 behind us. It has been fifty years.

I tender my apology for any indignation and personal losses your family suffered brother.

I was not even alive in 1971 and most here of either side were not.

But fifty years has been long enough. There comes a time when one must accept closure and move on.

Food crops were produced in the east and west .Cash crops in the east mainly.
Plus east had frequent natural disasters and then the food crop would come entirely from the west.
This was evident soon after 1971 .
The east had no food crop reserves.
New Bangladesh faced shortage of food grain soon after independence and by 1974 it was officially called "Famine " and caused the death of 1.5 million Bangladeshis.

It's not that easy to forget.
The attorocities cimmitted by Mukti Bahini were horrendous.
Politically the hateful narrative was sown by Sheikh mujeeb. He deleted Islam and based his agenda on Bengali ethnic nationalism alone.
That led to the alienation of all non bengalis living in East Pakistan. From what I heard from my family elders living at the time. All non bengalis were dehumanised. We biharis were branded "Bijju" which is a rat like rodent.
Once our human identity was taken away from us and made rodents, killing us was just as easy as killing a rat.
My grand dad was well off. He bought land in East Pakistan after he migrated from Bihar in 1947.
He did well and by 1960s he had a mansion.
In October 1971 his house was raided by Mukti Bahini. He as an old man , was a non combatant and had nothing to do with politics, was shot dead in front of the family in his living room.
The Bengali neighbours came to the rescue for the rest of the family, as he had always been good with everyone.
One of his son was an electrical engineer and was on duty at Dhaka power management office, called WAPDA.
He was just keeping the city electricity flowing, under those difficult situations.
Mukti Bahini raided that building and picked up all non bengalis, including him.
He was taken to Dhaka stadium and in front of a cheering crowd, tortured to death, and he was not alone.
Dhaka stadium was killing grounds then, and Bengali crowds enjoyed watching beharis and other non bengalis tortured to death on daily basis.

I know its not your fault or none of current generation fault.
But when you ask Pakistan for an apology, also look at what your own "National heroes " did to people like us.
