Sonia attacks BJP over Bangladeshi infiltration issue

Congress president Sonia Gandhi Friday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying the party that is now raising the bogey of Bangladeshi infiltration in Assam did nothing to check the influx during its regime.

"The BJP was in power at the centre and during their regime they did literally nothing to check infiltration from Bangladesh and now during the elections here, the same party is shouting from rooftops about the danger from Bangladeshis," Gandhi told an election rally in Guwahati, Assam's major city.

"It is the Congress government both in Assam and at the centre that is taking steps to check influx."

Gandhi addressed another election rally in the western town of Dhubri and urged the people of Assam to give the Congress a third chance to rule the state.

"The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the BJP have been carrying out a slanderous campaign in Assam, but let me tell you they did nothing for the people of Assam and only made false promises," Gandhi said in Dhubri.

"What did the BJP-led government at the centre do in Assam and during that time the AGP was in power in the state. I challenge both the AGP and the BJP to clarify what they did for Assam during their regime."

Gandhi's fiery speech was hailed with thunderous applause in both the rallies.

"I am appealing for votes on the basis of the good governance and overall development in Assam during the last 10 years of Congress government," the Congress president said.

"And I am more than confident that the Congress would make a political hat-trick in Assam."

The Indian NE needs development. These Assamese Muslims find it difficult not to go against GoI when they have become the poor men of India. A higher standard of living in Bangladesh attracts them. around 80% of so called Assamese muslims don't even speak assamese. rest 20% are assamese muslims & those 80% bangla speaking muslims are illegal bangladeshi citizens & as far as those so called assamese muslims(which are infact bangladeshis) want to go to B.D back then we indians are will be more than happy.

A multi-billion dollar indian fence at the border and an infiltration through this 10 meter tall fence are not compatable. Can someone make us understand this math? Today, the Indians are denying all the historically correct truths only to prove that the muslims in assam are from Bangladesh. Reality is they are Bangali Muslims, but are not Bangladeshi Muslims. They have been living in Assam for the last eight centuries.

People here are claiming that these Muslims are not Assamese because they do not speak Assamese. This claim is funny. What is the core difference between Bangla and Assamese? Nothing. A language is formed by the mutual assimilation of vocabularies and expressions spoken by different sections of people living in an area. The language of Assam is so silmilar with Bangla. But, why it is so? It is because the Bangali Muslims had migrated to Assamese plains during the historical times.

This is how these people's contribution has created an Assamese language that so resembles Bengali. Take out this Muslim Bangali factor, and you will find Chinese like languages there. It is because at one time a group of invaders from China's Yunnan invaded and took over Assam. They also became permanent in Assam.

Before them Manipuris were dominant. These two groups intermarried and built the main core of assamese. But, then why the Assamese language is so different from their individual languages and why it is so very near to Bangla. It is because the Bangali Muslims had migrated to this land in historical times only about 10 years after the Yunnan Chinese arrived there, and became permanent in that land.

It is true that many Mymensing Muslims also migrated to those uninhabited lands during British time, and became the permanent citizens of assam.

Assam was not a part of india and Assamese are not Indians. It was literally a Protectorate under the British Bengal govt only since 1826. Assamese will by happy to found another independent country where the Bangali Muslims there will become the dominant force. I think, many organizations are working to make it happen.
