Sonam Wangchuk's reaction on the ban of chinese apps

Wow, so much of data. Anyway, here are a few quotes from the article.

'India was the number one market for downloads in 2019 (only counting iOS App Store and Google Play Store downloads), with 323 million downloads, accounting for 44% of the total figure.'

'TikTok managed to persuade the authorities that it had tightened regulations and the app duly found its way back onto the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. The ban cost the app an estimated 15 million new users in what looked set to be TikTok’s best month to up until that point in the South Asian mega nation.'

'The importance of the market to TikTok is clear. In October, it launched an education program in India – the first such initiative from the app. Certainly this suggests an app wanting to stay in a nation’s good books.'

The graph in the first link is related to consumer spending and not total revenue as a whole. Further, the article is related to games so yes, China is a huge market in the gaming industry. This is the graph that @Leishangthem had earlier incompletely posted. Thanks for sharing the link.

We are talking about apps spending and Games account for the greatest proportion of app revenue.
Go look it up again.
India is by far the biggest downloading nation of Pubg and many such games, but the revenue is paltry.
So prove to me where I was wrong.

75% of the global app revenue pie was represented by the top five countries(CHINA,US,JAPAN,S.KOREA,UK) that is expected to even increase to 85% by 2021,further reducing India's share.

?
Do tell me where I was wrong.

Mutual understanding is possible if China is prepared to listen. If there's no response from China, India will have to take the necessary measure. If China falls back to previous status quo i.e retreating from no man's land, then no problem.

lol , tell when Indians understand the concept of mutual understanding, the day Indians accept the 1962 incident was caused by India not china( as proven by the henderson report) when the politicians would stop talking about reclaiming aksai chin, when India reduces troops and road buildup near disputed areas and stop any plans of letting US troops use Indian region.
Mutual understanding isn't India demanding China to adhere to India's version of its borders,China and India has to sort out the differences they have regarding Arunachal and Kashmir border areas .

There's no mention of 7 billion revenue in the article.
7B revenue in first half of the year.,. they are expecting more than 14B for the year.
Any way this thread is not worth spending time.

Is blocking social media website/ app is going to impact Indian? --> NO
Can we survive with out it --> Yes

Will it have big impact on revenue for parent company - short term I guess NO
Long term --> Yes.. revenue is directly proposal to viewership and loosing #1 client base will have some impact.

Again, why so much fuss about Tiktok, there are other apps. on list.

"Nonetheless, China is still biggest source of TikTok revenue through iOS users alone. $122.9 million of TikTok 2019 revenue comes from its home market; 69% of the total. The US comes in second place, with its $36 million contribution accounting for 20% TikTok 2019 revenue. The UK, contributing 2% ($2.4 million), was in third place."

Note this is only iOS revenue. For all over, I found these articles
Mobile users in India prefer to use Android over iOS so iOS downloads from India as well as the revenue generation is bound to be low.

Overall, there is one estimate for India revenue that's 25 crore rupees - 3.3 million dollars and two estimates for global revenue in the same quarter - 50 million and 87 million. Taking the lower one for global, it turns out Tiktok had 6.6% of it's revenue from India but wanted to increase it four-fold by sept. 2020. However, also note that FB earned around 892 crores in the same quarter in India.

"If we look at Rs 892 crore Facebook revenue in India in FY19, TikTok’s earnings appear marginal. However, it is expected to catch up at a quick pace if the same trend continues. The company is expected to post about Rs 80 crore revenue in the ongoing fiscal.

While it will be early to say that TikTok will eat up the revenue of Facebook’s family of apps, experts believe that Bytedance would pose a serious threat to Facebook’s revenue in the coming years."

So, to summarise Tiktok earned at most 6.6% of it's earnings from India but the market had a lot of potential if had eaten FB and other competitors.
Yes, so India has 6.6% of total Tiktok revenue assuming we take the estimate of Apptopia. If we consider Sensor Tower estimate of $87 million total then it's 3.8%. So yes, both ways, till now there's not a big market in India yet but as the article and mentioned, Tiktok was planning to grow to 100 crore in India in the July-September quarter which is fourfold of 25 crore. Assuming the global market grows double instead of fourfold and considering Apptopia estimate, then India's quarterly revenue would have been 13.3%.

Anyway, Tiktok is not even the main point so we should stop this discussion.
