Some information about IAF MIRAGE 2000

Israel had offered a lesser upgrade for half the price. We should have taken that. Or simply let the mirages serve until they retire, and meanwhile get several more LCAs with the money saved. By the time these mirages are upgraded (2019), there will be no dearth of high quality in the IAF (Rafale, FGFA).
Thanks for replying in positive manner ,This was my question as at end of day Mirage will remain pretty decent 3.5 Gen fighter but with the addition of new platform or perhaps diverting money to LCA would have done wonder`s considering it is a newer design with lots of improvement still left also French 30% diverting money is no excuse as if you have invested in your own project that would have been 90% reinvestment in local system and people

Well,i beg to differ with your opinion.Mirage-200 is a true 4th generation multi-role aircraft and it's a quite potent in A-A role as well.Hence the French Air Force is still maintaining their Mirage fleet even though they have the option of replacing them with the newer Rafale. All the air forces that operate Mirage-2K are extremely satisfied and content with its performance both in the A-A as well as in the A-G roles.

Sir ,I believe cost remains' an issue for France replacing all with Rafael is like reinventing all its air force again also Air Forces tries to mix low and high tech at the same time just to offset fly away cost difference .True if 4th generation it belongs then question arises why investing 20 Bil on Rafael if it could serve the purpose .Don't comment if you feel off topic I am just trying to find rational what I mean is then IAF should be looking for Mirages and get there strength up.

cause no matter how much you get it right there is always space for making it even better and improoving ....its called evolution and nothing is perfect for all the times and changing needs

france and all airforces who use fighters like M2K or for that matter F16tell me whyare they going for F35 , or similar fighters ?

now why did IAF went for such an expensive option cause at this price they could have gota brand new Mig 29 with simillar or better capabilities well its strange to measwell as france had offerred full production lineof M2K to India way back in 2005 (love for kick backs i guess as home made products dont offer that )

but the fact is M2K had shown how good it is whenput in service at a very short notice and how easy its to retro fit in case its current capacities are not good enof or its sortie rate(as it showed its worth in kargil)

Not mentioning this for sake of argument ,during Kargil threat matrix was zero for A2A as all PAF was grounded as war attrition reserves were saved ,Next time I guess you know what I mean bcas just don't want to get in to thunder ,even thunder will have BVR with no restriction .So I guess 20 Year ago scenario`s are changed .
Peace

even LCA has showed what it can do with regards to its A to G capabilities but we all know IAF is the final athurity but its a diffrent story altogether and fighterlike thunder (why did PAF went for 2nd & 3d hand F16 & putting billionsfor its upgrade)or whatever cant be compared to something like M2K better compare the latest upgraded M2K to latest F16 Blk 52 (like those ofSingapore air force with whome IAF practises regularlias they are based in india )

Because No more mirages are available as production line is closed. Also Rafale is more potent and much more advance. Think why China had J-10s still they need J-11s? Apply same for India. Mirage-2000 has shot down one F-16D too by the way.

Too expensive 3 billion for 50 Planes i.e 60 Mil wow considering all infra is their. Seriously guys why ?

well if you look at things from a holistic perspective, you may get the answer...you may find lot of opinions on it however ever wondered why PAF have so much love for F-16?? The reason is that PAF is comfortable with the plane...they have practiced day in and out on this and have developed procedures and tactics on it...No matter how great your machine is and how many features it has...it will be as good as the man behind it...please note i am not saying technology doesn't matter...what i am trying to say is that if you are given a choice to get decent features(fulfilling your requirements) on an old and friendly platform vs a new machine with even great features then you will happily chose the old platform..why? because it takes a minumum of 4-5 years worth effort to get comfortable with a new platform....master the ground support....maintenance and what not...This is a huge investment and no amount of money can replace it...In short if we had rafale right now with us and a fight with PAF broke..then rest assured Rafale is going to sit pretty much in the base....Role of MKI's in Kargil is a great example...

For example PAF has its hand full with JF-17 at the moment and thus if you would ask them to replace their F-16 with let's say rafale free of cost then they will happily decline...now it may sound madness however if we think logically then PAF would be right...because two new planes will simply make them vulnerable right now...in short Air-force or in general defence establishments are risk averse in nature and happily pay extra money(if they can afford)!!

Agreed

Role of MKI's in Kargil is a great example

Kindly elaborate

Very sad that upgraded mirages dont come with AESA

Just trying to point out that IAF would have never deployed their MKI's even though supposed to the best Aircraft given the timeframe involved

MKI was not deployed in Kargil attacks.. Also its said that most of the attack was done by rookie teams..Didnt give much chance to veterans..

Too much corruption in India where you spend 2.4 billion dollars to upgrade 51 mirages(3 crashed between that time the deal was signed to now. So 48 left). That's almost 50 million dollars wasted on a 3.5 generation plane to upgrade them to 3.75 generation. On the other hand just 15 million dollars can get you a 4.5 generation JF-17 and in block 3 you get a 4.5++ geneation for just 20 million dollars. India is so stupid and corrupt!
