Solving a fundamental problem: Iran's engine development programs

why should Israel develop its own engine? They're not sanctioned to the stone age like we are. They can buy the damn engine at a fraction of the cost.

because i assume it's always better to make your own thing , why doesn't france too buy german equipment ? lets suppose the european union sanctions israel too because of some hypothetical war they might have in the near to distant future , would they still get german engines and submarines? i think not

wtf are you talking about?

It's like saying Saudi Arabia should invest billions of dollars to create a climate like Mazandaran in order to grow rice in artificially created rice patties because "it's always better to make your own things."

NO IT IS NOT!

It's called opportunity cost and it's the most fundemental of all business theories and concepts. For every dollar you spend, you have to get maximum output. If you spend 1 dollar to produce an item that you have an advantage in making it, than you have spent that 1 dollar wisely. If you spend 1 dollar to make an item where you have a disadvantage, than you have made a very poor choice.

Iran is forced to make poor choices b/c of the sanctions. Also "France" isn't making anything, French companies are. And if French companies are making certain items, it's becuase France has an advantage in certain areas, same as Germany.

Let's use maple syrup as an example. More than 80% of the world's maple syrup is produced in Canada. There is a reason for this and it's b/c Canada has an advatage compared to other nations in the maple tree department. Now would it be a smart decision to spend 5 billion dollars to create an environment where maple trees would grow on mass just to produce our own maple syrups? Of course not! That would be an insanely idiotic idea.

The whole notion of trade and commerce works with the most basic fundementals of business like opportunity cost. Every nation and region has an advantage in one area. You can certainly re-invest money you gain from trade to increase your advantage in other areas, but to claim that "it's always better to make your own things" is just laughable and comical.

by your logic , iran should stick to producing oil , rugs and pistachio forever?

That is a very good point you make. But as you said, because Iran is under the most strict sanctions we are forced to invest and develop in our own domestic industry.
If sanctions are ever lifted, we should still rely mostly on our own domestic capacity. At least in terms of military hardware. As Iran-Iraq war showed, its suicide to rely on anybody for that.

by your logic , iran should stick to producing oil , rugs and pistachio forever?

No. But Iran shouldn't try to make "everything" domestically either. Even US imports a lot of its needs from abroad. Can't US make them at home? Sure it can. But the price of a Japanese product could be much less compared to the American product of the same quality. Iran should focus on its strong points and try to expand its already established industries. We shouldn't try to make CPU chips because doing so requires us to set up a very expensive industry with uncertain future, while the same money could have been used to expand our already established automotive, petrochemical, power and pharmaceutical industries.

But in this case, we have to develop an indigenous industry because of the sanctions.

well , that sounds like a fair argument , comparing to what abii is suggesting , thank you for your post again :)

Wankel engines produce more power than a piston engine of their size will be able to. That's what makes them suitable for drones (which should be built as much compact as it can be)

Boxermotor are far better than wankel! I am a mechanic and i can say you one thing. This is a bad engine program. Wankel engin are to complicated.

From that entire post, this is what you concluded???

Iran has advantages in many areas. We have a very smart and educated population as well as cheap labour in provinces like Baluchistan. We have a fantastic opportunity to grow faster than East Asia even. China has both cheap labour and skilled labour. They use this to produce both cheap goods and more advanced tech to serve their own needs and for export. Iran also has vast quantities of energy. This can be used to gain extra cash and to accelerate our own growth and industry.

This is part of our advantage. Another advantage that we have is our geographical location. We have a massive coastline in the South where 40% of the world's oil goes throgh (hence the insanely busy water way we call the Persian Gulf) and a climate where we can grow everything from rice to dates. UAE has managed to attract all the shipping traffic while we were busy fighting a holy war and trying to go back to the 6th century with our retarded revolution that our parents gifted us.

All of this could help us become a first world natio in a matter of a decade. All these are advantages that we have compared to nations that surround us. Our parents however decided to throw all this in the garbage and have a revolution. Today a bunch of braindead hezbollahis like Soheil and Kollang are continuing this stupidity. Because of all this we're stuck with inefficiency in all sectors. We're wasting oil income on an astronomical scale. We can't export anything because of the sanctions (cept oil and gas which come with their own export restrictions) and we can't import items we need to grow our industries and economy so we're forced to spend the hypothetical 5 billion dollars I talked about in my previous post to grow maple trees.

Wankel engine are not reliable engine. So why so difficult engine program? And wankel engine are not for diesel feul, the best reliable engine for uav is ottomotor systems. Or you have to make turbofan engine.

Considerable effort went into designing rotary engines in the 1950s and 1960s. They were of particular interest because they were smooth and quiet running, and because of the reliability resulting from their simplicity.
...
The elimination of reciprocating mass and the elimination of the most highly stressed and failure prone parts of piston engines gives the Wankel engine high reliability, a smoother flow of power, and a high power-to-weight ratio.
