Sohaib Maqsood, Fawad Alam in Line for Pakistan ODI Captaincy: Reports

Comparing Fawad and Sohaib Maqsood.

Did Sohaib even deserve a chance in front of Fawad for this World Cup? Before this World Cup the only mega event Pakistan participated in was Asia Cup. Look at Fawad performance in Asia Cup? He consistently batted well, held the innings together and scored singles whenever boundaries were not coming.

@cb4 I m from Karachi ( not MQM) I dont get into these biased arguments. But there is a different manner players from Karachi are treated. Umar Akmal does not deserve anymore chances. He has been playing for 4+ years. Not a single good score. Who is keeping him in the team? Does he deserve a chance above Fawad Alam? Fawad has been consistently performing in domestic cricket. But he is not given a chance.

Fawad is good and should get a chance. Sohaib still needs more experience. But Afridi is done.

None of these new players have a technique. They either hit or get out. Classic case is Haris Sohail. He cant place a ball in the gap and take single. Unless they rotate strike, they put pressure on themselves. This is how Maqsood, Haris and Umar (the less said about him the better) got out.

Isn't fawad a captain in the domestic cricket? He's the no brainer choice.

I've never seen maqsood be active in the field and his batting is so-so. Not sure why he is even being considered. Probably has a strong lobby behind him.

Maybe we were different world cups because that's the only logical explanation as to why you are comparing maqsoods and haris' batting.

So far Sarfraz has played 39 ODIs and in them played only 2 good games. He has a long way to go to prove his worth as a Captain.

but he is urdu speaking, must be treated differently than paindus

I don't like to get into things like that but I had to cuz the guy thinks Lahoris have influence and they are paindus. I just proved that in the past 90% of captains were non-Lahoris.

Fawad should indeed be given chance but on what basis will you want to make him captain ? 1. He has hardly any international cricket experience and 2. He has no interaction with players on the team and the coach. Domestic cricket doesn't mean anything. There are players who average 60 in first class and once they get on the team they go flop. I would first get Fawad on the team and see how he plays in the first 50 or so matches, sort of how we tried Asad Shafiq.

I never supported the way U. Akmal has been playing but I believe he is the best raw talent available. He is like only 24. He needs help from someone who used intelligence as an attacking batsman. I have my finger pointing towards Ijaz Ahmed, Aamir Sohail, and Saeed Anwar as his potential mentors.

When choosing a captain it is important to look for someone who is educated and who is not. Inzammam, Youhana, S.Malik and Afridi were classic examples who were not and Kardar, F.Mehmood, Imran, and Misbah were the ones who were. While comparing you will find who had better winning percentage. As the writter states this is exactly the reason why Sohaib Maqsood has some supporters in the board and thats exactly the reason why i would say this is yet another option over Fawad Alam

Those who can't find talent in their city will surely start saying these things. What they keep forgetting is the fact that the guy not going in their favour is Shahryar Khan, the PCB chairman who is apparently an urdu speaking,

If its a choice between young players I would go for Ahmed Shehzad. He has Virat Kohli type potential.
Brother, you must be joking about this idiot,, he is the most overrated batsmen I have seen, he has very limited shots to offer, I strongly suggest we need to get rid of him as soon as possible, he also have serious decipline problems that's why he was thrown out from the team for 2 years and he has not changed. I would bring back Imran nazir as opener and work on Nasir Jamshed to improve his game.

Sohaib need to be dropped, no place for coward players in team. Akmal should be dropped, we have seen enough of him. Pakistan need to think of future and select players who can improve with time. Seem like in Pakistan batting line up no one improves even after 5 years playing international cricket.

Lol, he does not have any kohli like potential. In ODI he either look to smack the ball or defend. The guy waste so many balls its rediculous.

Azhar Ali likely to replace Misbah as captain
After retirement of the most successful skipper of Pakistan cricket Misbah-ul-Haq, cool headed Azhar Ali came to the front as a top contender for captaincy of the national team.

Most of the think tanks are agreed on the name of Azhar as next Pakistan cricket team captain.
According to the sources, though the names of Fawad Alam and Asad Shafiq are also under consideration, yet the situation is in more favour of Azhar than the others.

Former captain Misbah, head coach Waqar Younis and a few in team management also suggested Azhar’s name for captaincy and gave his positive report to PCB chairman Shaharyar M Khan regarding captaincy.

Though the names of Ahmed Shahzad, Umar Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood and M Hafeez were also under consideration yet there is no positive report about them to be picked up as a next captain.

The sources also revealed that the PCB had decided to send Azhar as a captain of Pakistan A team touring Sri Lanka next month where his abilities as a captain will be tested.

If he succeeds in captaining the A team well, there will be a great chance for him to be handed the national team captaincy.

There is also a chance to check Azhar’s captaincy capabilities during the Pakistan-Bangladesh series if the proposed series is finalized,’ the sources added.

In the above mentioned scenario, it is highly likely Azhar Ali can be given ahead as next national team captain.

I most say Sarfraz is indeed good batsman, better then Akmal, shahzad, maqsood, haris etc All these players either defend or play stupid shots. Look at Haris innings, they cannot take singles. Same with Misbha.

Pakistan should only look for players like Sarfraz, who are good at taking singles and hitting sixes.

I don't like to get into things like that but I had to cuz the guy thinks Lahoris have influence and they are paindus. I just proved that in the past 90% of captains were non-Lahoris.

To be honest batting talent provided by punjab/kpk is pathetic now days. We need to look for batsmen from Karachi. We can find another miandad or even Tendulkar with some luck.

Right now no one except fro Hafeez is fit for the job. Should make him the captain right now and if in the next year or two any of the youngsters either it be Sarfaraz or Fawad or Maqsood proves to capable of the job should be appointed.

There was some talented U19 players who had been beating up Australia and world , focus should be on these players

He should be included in team (Age 24) - captaincy material

New team should be based on "Athleticism" as much as talent , as we have seen talent alone we only scored 1 century
