Sri Lanka protest against NATO air attacks on Pakistan
Posted on Dec 9th, 2011.

Sri Lanka on Friday held a protest condemning last month’s NATO air strike that killed 24 Pakistani troops on the border with Afghanistan.
Organized by one of the allies of ruling government, National Freedom Front and Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association, a spokesman said the protest was to condemn NATO attack and express solidarity with Pakistan.
“The attack is one of the heinous crimes by the NATO forces and as Sri Lankan we strongly condemn it,” Mohamed Muzamil, spokesman for NFF told Xinhua.
A number of politicians mostly from the ruling government together with a large number of supporters of Sri Lanka-Pakistan Friendship Association participated in the protest held in a public square in the heart of capital Colombo.
Sri Lanka has very close diplomatic ties with Pakistan in various fields including trade, education, science and technology, culture, engineering, railways, tourism and defence.
During the ethnic war against Tamil Tiger rebels which ended in May 2009, Pakistan emerged as one of the leading small weapons suppliers to the island nation.
Following the November NATO attack Pakistan has upgraded its air defence system on the Afghan border to make it capable of shooting down aircraft.
Subsequent to attack the U.S. offered its condolences but Pakistan is reportedly set to review all diplomatic, military and intelligence links with the U.S. and NATO following the incident. Immediately after the attack the Pakistani government also blocked the vital supply route for NATO troops fighting in Afghanistan.

I love sri Lankans. They always have made us proud and although a small island nation , the people have proved to be big hearted friends. They are the people who know the price of independence . India played havoc by equiping, training and protecting Tamil rebals. Srilankan had to fight not only LTTE, TNA etc but also indirect Indian agression. They fought for decades and in the end proved their mettle. People of Pakistan have great respect for our Srilankan brothers and pray for prosperity of Paradise called Srilanka
Long Live Lankan Pakistani Friendship

That is really a good ...IS there any info abt Indian govt reaction on this ?

Are you humoring the thread buddy? GOI won't say anything supportive at this time when it is at its lowest in minority in parliament. Its exit will simply be expedited the moment they go apologist. US is giving us more benefits for us to say anything. In fact, an abstinence from saying anything would be the BEST reaction.

Lala you know nilch how the Lankans won against the Tigers and who were there providing them diplomatic cover all along the war when gruesome HR violations were being willfully perpetrated by the Lankan forces. So please......

Your compensatory diplomatic support and policy after what you did to SL is also commendable. :)

Sri Lankans display solidarity with Pakistan against NATO attack

Thousands of Sri Lankans gathered in Colombo on Friday to condemn the actions of NATO/US-ISAF coalition and to denounce the unprovoked attacks of last month that resulted in the deaths of over two-dozen Pakistani soldiers.

The Sri Lanka Pakistan Friendship Association along with Pakistani community in Sri Lanka organized a peaceful demonstration today outside the Devatagagha Mosque in Town Hall, Colombo to protest against the recent NATO attack on Pakistan's military check posts on Afghanistan border.

The Governor of Western Province & several Sri Lankan government ministers including Minister Mervyn De Silva, Deputy Mayor of Colombo Municipal Council and several high profile personalities participated in the peaceful protest against the attack, which Pakistan says a blatant violation of its air and ground space.

Protesters including journalists, government employees, lawyers and members of civil society gathered near the Colombo Municipal Council building complex and asked the US and NATO to "Stop terrorizing Pakistan".

A heavy contingent of police was present to provide security to the protesters and to ensure peaceful demonstration. No unwanted incidents took place throughout the protest.

The organizers of the demonstration, Pakistan Sri Lanka Friendship Association, ministers and representatives of political parties addressed protesters and called for a resolute stand against the aggression. They termed the NATO attack as blatant aggression and terrorism, and appealed to the international community to stop such violations.

Pakistan says the attack was unprovoked and officials call it an act of blatant aggression. The United States, which considers Pakistan is critical to bring a settlement to Afghanistan before their planned combat troops pull out in 2014, rejects the accusation.

The speakers of the rally expressed the opinion that the US had begun an undeclared war on Pakistan and accused that its drones had killed thousands of innocent citizens in tribal areas in the name of collateral damages.

Pakistan outraged by the NATO attack has suspended supply routes to NATO forces in Afghanistan.
