As if anyone here can say anything about the US that I have not heard before.

Reality, friend.

But by which elusive benchmark do you measure ones progression on self actualisation, advancement and development? What prompts one person to claim the other is backward?

Is there a test for backwardness? That can be applied universally? How would you measure and quantify backwardness? GDP/MDG? How?

And if indeed one in backward and the other advanced, why is it that the righteous few feel that their advancement comes with a licence to ridicule and ostracise? For would it not be best suited to such righteous beacons to behave as the ardent defenders of the weak and impoverished?

We see that in reality things are quite the opposite! The term: Whatever floats your boat comes to my mind.
