Beijing’s dismissal of the DRDO’s claims that its missile technology is superior to that of China might provoke knee-jerk patriotism in Delhi. But no one in the world disputes that China is way ahead of India in missilery and military uses of space. By transferring missiles and their production technology, China has also put Pakistan ahead of India. Instead of acknowledging the reality and redoubling the effort to catch up, the DRDO is making extravagant claims. Take, for example, its head V.K. Saraswat’s claim that the Agni-III, with its 3000 km range, is ready for “induction” by the services. A weapons system inducted after just four tests including one failure? This is the kind of sanctimonious self-congratulation that the DRDO has doled out for decades. Because they wrap themselves in the flag, we are not supposed to ask questions, only clap. Saraswat has claimed that “there is no need to produce and store missiles in today’s world”. Really? China has more than 1000 missiles pointed at Taiwan; and is producing and deploying missiles in scores every year............................................

just because china has 1000 missiles at an island which cant take more than10 missiles does'nt means we also follow their foolish tactics. We have other areas to look after also.Th idea of misslies and nuclear deterrence is not to be able to annihilate ur enemy 1000 times over but ot insinuate fear in his mind of the collateral damage his own territory is gonna suffer in case of a conflict.Do u think China would have the air to launch a conflict with India even fully knowing that it has enough missiles to obliterate every inch of India ,when it knows that retaliation by India will annihilate if not 100 but even 25 % of the damage.India has maintained minimum nuclear and missile deterrence which is not the optimum situation but acceptable. Also there is no need to unneccessary censure DRDO,when we have many other institutions who have deliverd even less than the DRDO>

Well deterrence is not war fighting but the ability to evade wars .
As far as DRDO is concerned ,u get institutions only as good as ur people.India is growing as a nation and surely with that DRDO's credibility will also increase.

India is definitely on the right track. We are in a growing period. In two years time, we would be on the verge of inducting Agni-V, and then in next two years a newer missile. We could have created 1000s of Agni I but that would have been a waste of money and today, they would have been obsolete.
We have the capability to build missiles and can build missiles at rapid rate when required. We don't store 100s of missiles but we do have 20-40 missiles which are more than enough. When tensions do go up and we feel that a war is inevitable and missiles would be required, we would be quickly ramp up the production of the latest and the most efficient missile for the purpose.
This way, we save the money which is spent on R&D of newer missiles and we also progress faster because instead of mass production, we are always indulged in research.

I hope you can now be at peace and not worry about India being not at the right path. :)

Why cant the DRDOs couch potatoes keep their mouth shut and concentrate on missiles. Why they need to open their mouth even before Army has even ordered the ICBMs.

Don't worry they are doing a fine job. Even they deserve to get some publicity after all that hardwork.

hey bro

they are doing good job but some one should be there one can show some fear to enemy eyes

Well surely DRDO needs some resolution. When I compare ISRO with DRDO, I just find lack of motivation and pusillanimous stance by them. In my opinion more private firms should enter into defence industry in India, that will bring competition, and DRDO is going to feel the heat, eventually.

.
The BIG difference between ISRO and DRDO is that one is a civilian agency with access to foreign technology (which ISRO has used and is still using to the maximum) while DRDO faces restrictions wrt technology access in key areas and has had to use other means (including if i may add, considerable inhouse R&D) to get to where it is today. IMO, we as indians should show more appreciation for all the achievements for DRDO (and at the same time, ctitique the mistakes they may have made).

.
DRDO has taken assistance when and where required. We cannot completely deny the fact. Even many of their systems uses western parts. Though I agree they must be appreciated for whatever heights they have reached today.

ISRO similarly have taken assistance from foreigners where required but still have played outstanding. Their success rate and story says something.

.
The level of "technology access" that ISRO has had is way more than DRDO and I am sure no one would disagree on that! At the same time, the issue with DRDO has been the attempts of creating whole systems which take up huge resources and require technology development in many overlapping areas. Thus if a "XYZ" lab of DRDO is unable to develope a technology, entire programs suffer! Thus, the new approach (where DRDO plans on looking at key technology areas) is IMO the way to go forward. This should solve most issues and with the lifting of sanctions and the broadening of relations with countries like israel should allow DRDO to come up with effective systems with greater speed. It is no doubt a big factor (consider the speed with which so many new systems have matured after russians/ israelis started providing systems since the late 90's)!
