What's new

Size of the Turkish Armed Forces

It really is not. The current program is to decrease the number of military personnel. A couple years ago it was more than 900,000. There are 192,000 Gendarmerie and Coast Guard under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Interior, at peacetime now. Now it is 479,000 active duty military personnel. which is a very descent number for Turkey considering the firepower we have. Not more not less.
For you yes Sir but around the world size still matters

By the way what is name off your intelligence agency which deals with other countries I mean outside Turkey @Kaan

No it is not. We have the highest firepower after US and UK within NATO which is more than enough and far higher than all ME, Eastern Europe, Africa nations and has global strike capabilities. I dont think any nation other than SK, Japan, India, Russia, China in Asia has that..

Please explain and expand your claim in details..it's welcomed

the National Intelligence Agency is the govermental intelligence agency more like the CIA of Turkey. But as for laws and tasks; the Bureau of Naval Intelligence is the priority given and front line intelligence agency responsible for "Foreign Intelligence and Counter Intelligence" by the definition of law.

National Security Council (MGK) (umbrella organization)
  • Republic of Turkey Prime Ministry Undersecretariat
  • Joint Chief of Staff Intelligence Bureau (semi-dependent, military intelligence and special operations)
    • Army Intelligence Bureau (semi-dependent, military intelligence)
    • Navy Intelligence Bureau (semi-dependent, military intelligence)
    • Air Force Intelligence Bureau (semi-dependent, military intelligence)
    • Coast Guard Intelligence Bureau (semi-dependent, military intelligence)
    • Gendarmerie Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Bureau (unofficially, as JİTEM) (semi-dependent, military law enforcement) (2005–present, officially, as JİT (Gendarmerie Intelligence Organization))
  • Police Intelligence Bureau (semi-dependent, law enforcement)
  • Offices of the Other Ministries
    • Ministry of Finance, Financial Crimes Investigation Unit (MASAK) (semi-dependent, financial monitoring)
    • Ministry of Customs, Customs Enforcement (dependent, customs protection)
    • Ministry of Forestry, Forest Conservation (dependent, environmental protection)

620,000-650,000 is enough wich is like that today. The problem is at navy.

We used to have 56,000 personnel just a couple years ago. Now 48,000. Navy will hit 60k at future.
I agree with the navies personnel being low,i also think that the future fleet will be small too.Considering Turkey is a peninsula and all three seas are hostile.IMO 4 AAW frigates won't be enough.

I also think that Coast Guard needs more recruits too.Not enough for Turkey's 8000+ km shorelines.

I think it will expand. As for the AAW frigates, 4 ships might be just UOR. We probably will see new orders from Navy for TF-2000 after 2020.

Coast Guard is advanced but as you said, they need to expand the fleet.

Wondering if the Navy and Air Force is entirely professional? If so that would mean there are only 100.000 professionals in the army.

I know for sure that we operate radar modified NIKE's with " special warheads".

But our main medium and short range AA defence modernized and upgraded follows :

I-HAWK XXI (Misille range 40 km Altitude 18 km, Radar range 70 km)
8 batteries (24 + 8 reserve) launchers M192 x3 ,
at least 770 missiles, 8 AN/MPQ-64 Sentinel 3D Radar, 8 AN/MPQ-61 HPI Illum Radars)

We operate also 512 - Rapier 2000 lauchers with almost 4000 missiles ,

some thousand Redeye/Stingers and some thousand AA-guns !

Yeap, thinkin the same with you. But i'm interested in LegionnairE's thoughts as he defens the conscription.

Also, our service time is 12 months. University graduates do 6 months. I fired 5 bullets in my entire service. All we done was marching, shouting, and waiting.
loool hahaha it's just the same in Iraq
