At least six rockets were fired Sunday night from the Gaza Strip toward southern Israel, prompting sirens to sound in multiple regions.

One of the rockets landed in Rahat, in the Bnei Shimon Regional Council, a second rocket exploded near Be'er Sheva and a third exploded in the Lachish Regional Council. Three more rockets were fired toward the Ashkelon Regional Council, two of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.

The rocket fire did not cause injuries nor property damage.

Residents in Lehavim and Rahat reported hearing the reverberations of explosions. A short time later, Israel Police reported that that a rocket had exploded in an open field in the Rahat area.

Following that, shortly after midnight, sirens sounded in the Ashkelon Regional Council, where the Iron Dome battery there intercepted two rockets.

The rocket fire followed a suprise Israel Defense Forces drill that took place on Sunday.

Sunday night's rocket fire follows weeks of relative calm in Israel's south, despite numerous attempts to fire rockets from the Gaza Strip that prompted air raid warnings in communities in the areas adjoining the strip. During May's Shavuot holiday, a rocket was fired at an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council, south of the strip, causing no injuries or damage. That incident came two weeks after rocket fire in the region that also caused no damage or injuries.

Nonetheless, in May, security officials were encouraged by the relative calm along the border with the Gaza Strip, and the assessment in the area was that quiet could prevail for an extended period in light of the restraining influence of Hamas, which has overall control of the strip. Israel Defense Forces staff still believe that Hamas has not changed its approach and that the Islamic group is interested in having relative calm prevail in the area.

When will these militants learn? When they try to *** a lion the lion will strike back.

Then they cry that IDF is killing our people.

I really respect the IDF. They dont take things lying down and strike hard at the pesky terrorists

Israel hits back after Gaza rockets

Israeli warplanes have attacked targets in the Gaza Strip after missiles were fired into southern Israel late on Sunday night.

At least six rockets were fired from northern Gaza, but no damage or injury was reported.

Hours later, Israeli aircraft hit Hamas targets, a BBC reporter said.

The reason for the flare-up is unclear but sources blame tension in Gaza after an Islamic Jihad leader was killed by Hamas police on Saturday.

Raed Qassim Jundeyeih, 32, died after he was shot during a gun battle involving police and members of his family. Unconfirmed reports said he was a commander of the militant group's military wing, the Al-Quds brigades.

Islamic Jihad were believed to have been behind Sunday night's rocket attack on Israel, which came after a period of relative calm.

Sirens blared in a number of areas of southern Israel and Israeli media said two of the missiles, thought to be Grad rockets, were intercepted by the Iron Dome system in the Ashkelon area.

Israeli planes launched an attack in the early hours of Monday. BBC reporter Rushdi Abualouf said three areas were targeted and there were no reports of casualties.

Already explained many times.

1) Iron Dome interceptor costs 50 K not 200 K.
2) Grad rocket costs thousands dollars not 20. Additional thousands dollars are needed to bring it to Gaza.
3) Iron Dome calculates trajectory and does not intercepts rockets which are missing populated areas.
4) You should count damage done by rocket. When it falls in populated area its usually much more than 50 K.
5) Iron Dome is only one of many war factors. Voctry is achieved by combining defence and offence.
