While a lot of people ridicule DRDO, it really depends on which particular department or sub-org of DRDO is handling the project. For instance, DRDO's missiles and helo departments are among the best. ADA has also significantly improved with the whole LCA project. AWACS is handled by DRDO's CABS, LRDE and DEAL departments and the timeline for development and deployment of our first three Netra AWACS was pretty fast. I'd expect them to do much better in this caseGood idea as long as DRDO completes the work on time but they should not go for old planes rather get new ones.
Also, Air India's A321-200 and Air India Express' Boeing 737-800 are the two candidate for this project
For you guys, I think it's your AF, Army and NavyIt's our Air Force then Navy then Army in conventional wars
They got the idea from Brazil and Embrae
That's a load of BS...our initial three Netra AWACS which were developed around 2010 are based on Embraer ERJ-145 which are generally used as commercial regional planes. Instead of procuring newer ones, we're using Air India's fleet nowyup! they have finally learnt from Pakistan, who has recently brought commercial Saab 2Ks and installed Erieye AESA radars on them taking our fleet to 11 AWACS in total.
