He used the word China also.

Why did he use the word China? Why?

Since when you became chinese? Kathmandu is not in China.

Anyways,

Six million preventable child deaths - the biggest child rights violation..

I highly doubt this piece of stat. I am not a big  for medical facilities and medical reforms in India but this sure seems to be exaggerated.

WB paints a bleak picture of India on poverty | NewsX

Tue-May 12, 2009

India now is ahead of only Sub-Saharan Africa among developing countries in terms of the percentage of population below the poverty line, though it fared better than China on this count in 1990, according to the World Bank.

The multilateral lender, in its recently released report 'Global Economic Prospects for 2009', said a quarter of India's population will be living in extreme poverty, on less than $1.25 per day, in 2015.

The corresponding figures for China is 6.1 percent and for Sub-Saharan Africa 37.1 percent. These are based on purchasing power parity exchange rates derived from the 2005 price surveys, meaning that the calculations have been made assuming a dollar's purchasing power to be the same in the years under consideration as in 2005.

According to the World Bank's poverty forecast, China had 60.2 percent of its population living on less than $1.25 a day in 1990, compared to India's 51.3 percent.

However, 15 years later in 2005, China had 15.9 percent of its population living in extreme poverty as compared to India's 41.6 percent living on less than $1.25 per day, the international poverty line.

"Much of decline in global poverty between 1990 and 2005 results from increased incomes in China, where the level of extreme poverty fell from over 60 percent in 1990 to less than 16 percent in 2005," the report said.

Compared with the measures provided by the market exchange rates, the purchasing power parity exchange rates provide a more accurate measure of the affordability of non-traded goods in the poverty basket, the World Bank said.

"The international poverty line is meant to capture a notion of extreme poverty. As such, it is calculated as the average poverty line of the poorest countries," the bank said.

Further, it said the poverty line, measured at $1.25 in 2005, represents the average of the poverty lines of 15 poorest countries, for which there is data.

According to the report, the number of Indians living in extreme poverty were 43.6 crore (51.3 percent) in 1990, 45.6 crore (41.6 percent) in 2005, and will be 31.3 crore (25.4 percent) in 2015.

"The East Asia and Pacific region has clearly surpassed its individual target, and South Asia is on target. The main concern remains Sub-Saharan Africa," the World Bank said.

The percentage of population in extreme poverty for the African region south of the Sahara was 57.6 percent in 1990, 50.9 percent in 2005 and will be 37.1 percent in 2015.

Yes buddy, you are right.

We are sincerely trying to help some poor helpless children. We are not here for India bashing.

But you can see how super_star and fateh 71 used racist remarks.

From a neutral point of view, you can tell that they committed offense.

As Peshwa posted a very useful post and I will donate something to his foundation.

Please do not get blinded by the use of your country's flag by some Indian (?) members here. If you think, they committed offense by using offensive words against your Chinese friends, please report their posts.

Poverty in India - Cause of poverty in India, Ways to Reduce Poverty in India

Poverty in India: Current Situation

Poverty is one of the main issues, attracting the attention of sociologists and economists. It indicates a condition in which a person fails to maintain a living standard adequate for a comfortable lifestyle.

Though India boasts of a high economic growth, it is shameful that there is still large scale poverty in India. Poverty in India can be defined as a situation when a certain section of people are unable to fulfill their basic needs. India has the world's largest number of poor people living in a single country. Out of its total population of more than 1 billion, 350 to 400 million people are living below the poverty line. Nearly 75% of the poor people are in rural areas, most of them are daily wagers, landless laborers and self employed house holders. There are a number of reasons for poverty in India. Poverty in India can be classified into two categories namely rural poverty and urban poverty.

Reasons for Rural Poverty

Some of the basic reasons of rural poverty in India are:

Unequal distribution of income.

High population growth.

Illiteracy.

Large families.

Caste system.

Problems Of Rural Poverty

Presence of malnutrition, illiteracy, diseases and long term health problems.

Unhygienic living conditions, lack of proper housing, high infant mortality rate, injustice to women and social ill-treatment of certain sections of society.

Steps Taken by Government to Reduce Rural Poverty

The government of India has been trying its best to remove poverty. Some of the measures which the government has taken to remove rural poverty are:

Small farmer’s development Programme.

Drought area development Programme.

Minimum needs Programme.

National rural employment Programme.

Assurance on employment.

Causes for Urban Poverty.

Causes for Urban Poverty

The causes of urban poverty in India are:

Improper training

Slow job growth.

Failure of PDS system

Problems Of Urban Poverty

Restricted access to employment opportunities and income.

Lack of proper housing facilities

Unhygienic environments

No social security schemes

Lack of opportunity to quality health and educational services.

The steps taken by government to remove urban poverty are:

Nehru Rozgar Yojna.

Prime Minister Rozgar Yojna.

Urban Basic services for the poor Programme.

National social Assistance Programme.

But these processes can be helpful only if the policies go to those people for whom it is meant. The clash between the central government and the state government often results in the lack of implementation of these policies. So it is very important that the governments do not play power politics when it comes to a serious issue such as poverty.

There are so many racist dirts in society.

We need to remove them one by one. I am ready to sacrifice my useless life to remove a single racist dirt. I will be happy before dying with the knowledge that at least I have done something significant to the society. My life was not worthless. I am damn serious.

We the present generation youth should eliminate racist elements from society.

"Sacrificing your life" is same thing as "removing a single racist dirt from society" :)

. .
There is no need for us Chinese to discuss this. This is India's problem and frankly I can't care less. If they don't even care about their own, why would you bother?

But Indian members, for example, super_star and fateh 71 these two posters deliberately used offensive racist comments against Chinese and China.

Please report their posts.

I am just waiting for the mods to come and take action.

You mean that by 'sacrificing' your life you will be removing a 'racist dirt'?

How true. Kudos to your self-introspection.

How did I miss this gem of a post.

The solution to the hunger challenge in India is far from simplistic. The articles represent figures and analysis, but all this needs to be reviewed in the context of India's larger ecosystem.

Period.

.
It is called inferiority complex. Just let them self destruct, or maybe some Australian hooligans will do the job. As far as Indian children starving to death, it is not our problem.
