ISLAMABAD - A protest by the workers of the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) against the possible closure of the stores is gaining momentum as it entered the second day on Tuesday.

Hundreds of employees on Monday marched down to the Red Zone on Monday and blocked the D-Chowk to press the federal government to accept their demands.

This is the first massive sit-in being faced by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) since the strikes carried out by the Radio Pakistan employees. The agitators also took their breakfast at the D-Chowk and refused to end the sit-in until their demands are met.

The employees of the country’s biggest state-run retail chain are asking the government to withdraw the possible plan of privatising the USC and clear the Rs2.76 billion subsidy claim pending for the previous seven years. They also demanded permanent employment for contractual and daily wage employees.

The chain of stores has been closed across the country until their demands are met, the employees said.

They also warned of marching down on the Parliament House if the government did not pay heed to their demands.

Haram, mufat khoori or subsidy has become part of DNA. Govt. must privatize all the businesses.

Another mafia attack. When govt tries to do something better, mafia behind institutions comes out and hijacks the process. Same is with PIA . When govt says about downsizing extra crew, mafia starts its drama and stops the process with emotional blackmailing.

A day earlier, the Prime Minister’s aide Naeem-ul-Haq addressed the agitated employees and assured that all their demands would be fulfilled and no one would lose their jobs neither would any outlet be closed.

He also assured that all daily wage earners and contract employees would be regularized by the government by implementing an order passed in 2017. He said that government would also pay all the outstanding amounts owed by the Utility Stores Corporation.

However, despite the assurances the employees refused to end the protest until a notification was issued and the planned privatization of the utility stores corporation was halted immediately.

This is staged drama, most probably funded and encouraged by NooN

Truth of the matter is that the utility stores department is a failed enterprise and and huge
white elephant on national exchequer.

These are the imbecile sycophants who couldn't do their job right and now are crying against privatization.

This is PTCL one more time !

Hey Einstein, next time use the source that's not proving how stupid you really are.

The employees of the Utility Stores Corporation, the country’s biggest state-run retail chain, had urged the government to settle Rs 27.6 billion worth of subsidy claims pending for the last seven years, which is creating a financial crunch for the corporation, leading to its possible closure.

Who was governing Pakistan in 2017?

Who was in power for last 7 years?
