. . . . .
It's thanks to the 1962 loss - that India woke up to the fact that it's army was not prepared.

The whole Army was restructured, the incompetent Generals were sacked, the interference of Nehru & the polititions was exposed, and suddenly money was poured to uplift the army & it's equipment and clothing. The Americans gave money & latest equipment to India - to fight this communist expansionism.

If 1962 had not happened, India would have lost Kashmir in the Indo-Pak war of 1965.

It's China's misfortune it attacked India - otherwise it could have fully counted on India - when USA turns the screw on China. Now it is not sure. India could have been a ally, not it is a rival. Short gains, long term loss.

I think the above is a hyperbolic statement. Chinese did not initiate the hostilities and did not attack India.

Just like we admit that Pakistan instigated the 65 war (although did not attack across the IB), you too should admit that Chinese only responded to Indian ingress into a disputed territory and then pushed you guys back and after doing so, graciously left most of the territory taken from IA as well.

1. Why does every defeat have to be one's own faut? Why couldnt it simply be that the opponent was simply superior?

2. There is a massive gulf in capability between Pak. India on one hand and China on the other. I dont agree with your comment.

3. ?? China was repelling Indian encroachment, what else were they expected to do? The conflict didnt suddenly happen, it was building up with the annexation of Tibet by China. India wanted to make a statment, unfortuanetly it didnt bank on China's military performance to be so strong.

p.s. what screws are U.S. turning? The last i heard they were having trouble fighting bumpkin fighters in the mountains of Afghanistan and insurgents of Iraq.

There had not been any clear border between Chinese Tibet and India for thousands of years. Why did the conflict happen? India lost the fight but actually lost no land to anyone! Come on guys. What's the reason to bring up the old story like this?

Just a matter of time before we see indians coming and claiming that they beat china and china started the war with a couple wikipedia links

The fact is indian army woke up in 1962 is true but another time the IA woke up was in Kargil when they saw there army was very untrained, there AF had little training and tactics.

Every India would like to forget 1962.

The highlighted portion shows how much a serious guy you are.

since this topic is already there,as an arunachali i would like to say, not a single inch of arunachal belongs to those chinese.

According to Indian Maps, it was Indian territory...

But according to Chinese maps, it was their territory...

The conflict still persists... We lost that war coz chinese were better prepared. India did not use its Air-force at all, coz we were concerned that Chinese had a superior airforce...

I don't know why it is called a war, but the conflict was mainly limited in that region...

Chinese gained superiority coz they were on the on top of mountain ranges and Indians were below, just as happened in Kargil...

Anyway, it opened our eyes to our weakness...

Why not?

Will your nation go to war with China, if India like Taiwan claims that it is their own land and not of the chinese?

Dont think so. :disagree:

hahaha something very funny about the way you put that.

Perhaps IA should spend on cheaper Alarms than armies at its doorsteps.

As Sig put it, why does every Indian defeat have to be some internal problem and not the better performance of the opponent? "It opened our eyes..." Thats basically been the underlying comment by every Indian here.
