MMS had to back down because parties supporting his govt opposed the idea.
Why would he sacrifise his govt for something for which there is no broad consensus. This is not exactly nuclear deal.

Given the present economic scnario, India desperately needs FDI inflows. So opening retail sector is more important than nuclear deal. The allies were only giving empty threats for sake of populism. Mamta herself said she will not withdraw support to the govt. In such case Singh gave in too easily without putting up a fight. He should have shown the same resolve he showed during nuclear deal crisis. India's reputation as a rising open economy is irrepairably damaged now and the second generation reforms that country was waiting for may never happen. We may be back to the infamous 'Hindu rate of growth' very soon !!

As i said before once Walmart cuts the the middle men ,it will be the new middle men and the only middle men left for everyone that must depend on it.

So whats the problem here, if Walmart does a better job as middle men, giving good prices to both the producer and consumer.

This is the thing I hate about the government and political parties, rather than thinking about the country they are more concerned about their vote bank. MMS should have stuck to his plan, now its going to affect the economy. I am still surprised is to why would BJP be against it, they were all for it when they were in power.

Problem with the Indian politicians are that they think that they have to oppose every proposal coming from the other group....whether it is the treasury benches or opposition. They do not study the proposal to see if it is practical, logical or good or bad for the country, they just blindly oppose it because it was proposed by the opposite group.

What pains me is the most powerful person in a huge nation which requires urgent policies for econimic gorowth is such a weak person ?
This is the weakest Prime Minister I have seen in my life ...

He is supposed to be a leader.. The driver of growth and change and he is so weak !!!!
It's better if he resigns and someone like Pranab takes over who basically does all the work for him

IK Gujral was like a diplomat Prime Minister..
He might not have implemented high ticket reforms but he never showed the weakness of rolling back initiatives...

IK Gujaral also did not have the backing of a large political party unlike this Prime Minister

On the other hand this Prime minsister is unable to implement his will
He cannot do what he wants
where is his authority ?

What kind of person is he ?

He does not even have the guts to resign ..

If he does that the Congress party will ask him to roll back

Visniosry with execution shows leadership..

Visinosry without execution and rollbacks is akin to insults

He gets beaten on corruption because he was weak to control Raja, he was weak to implement his wish on Retail FDI, he gets haunted on Teesta treaty, he gets blackmailed on FDI in civil aviation, he gets haunted on Penson bill reforms, he is not even listened by his collagues on bringing PM under Lokpal, he is afraid to bring Labour Reforms, he is afraid to take railways to task for poor operations bevause TMC is running it, He is haunted on Banking Reforms, he is haunted on UID, he is haunted on FDI in Insurance, he is castugated for price rise ..

Man.. what sort of PM is he !!!

Both Congress and BJP are playing games over this policy.
I wonder if this policy was ever braught up by intention to delay Lokpal bill which was supported by BJP.

That guy is mad, he will only say what his policy makers will say, Like he listens only to RBI these days, doesnt have a mind of his own. What involvement he had in the retail policy as FM, heard any comments from him?

Its myth that FDI in retail will help farmers and agriculture prices.

Please enlighten yourself. The farmers in Punjab who supply Potatoes to Pepsico have seen a jump of 20-25% in their earnings since they started supplying to Pepsico and this when there even wasn't FDI.
