Singapore, Indonesia support special ASEAN meeting on Myanmar situation

Singapore and Indonesia have signalled their support for a meeting of ASEAN leaders to discuss the situation in Myanmar. Foreign ministers from both countries met in Jakarta on Mar 25.

This is second meeting after the first that was jointly supported by Indonesia and Malaysia

The junta has killed more than hundreds protesters and criminalize Aung San Suki. The situation is more like Egypt where the protesting will likely to fail. Different kind with Indonesia in 1998 where military didnt intervene and follow the civilian government, including when their power is being stripped gradually until 2004.

Not to say that Singapore isn't doing nothing. The problem is not the Thatmadaw right now, ASEAN has been negotiating discreetly. We don't insult Myanmar like what western media is doing openly. The biggest problem right now is pro-democracy are being too emotional. Sanctions don't work, for most part of Myanmar history they have been sanctioned. Sanctions will never work, but only serves as propaganda or military solution. Do you think Thatmadaw releasing protesters recently is because of ASEAN negotiation or western pressure? Africa Union has diplomatic solution for Libya, but westerners with their own agenda destroyed Libya.

Whats your point ? Pakistan acts as the leader for muslims of the world. But not a murmer on the Rohingyas , instead selling the Myanmar army Chinese fighter planes after rebadging.
India is surrounded by non democratic countries and hybrid regimes. We have to deal with them as they are neighbors. China, Pakistan, Myanmar, etc

Asean need to ask if they want to push Myanmar into Sinosphere? As per now the hill at the north is already penetrated heavily by China. People are learning Chinese. Chinese goods are pervasive. Chinese businessman are everywhere.

I wonder how the plains can hold the Chinese influence.

If Asean is hard on Myanmar, then Myanmar will spread her legs all the way for China. Barmese originated from Yunnan. So Barmese and Chinese mix easily. Marriage are common. (Chinese dont marry Malaysia Malay)
