The profiles of current CEOs at the world's largest 100 airlines measured by passenger traffic, or Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK). Airlines include private, publicly listed and government-owned entities. The common factor is they are all large enough to warrant an independent board which should reduce any external or political influence on CEO selection.

Looking at the Financial Times Stock Exchange 100 Index (FTSE 100) UNITED KINGDOM, considering the 100 largest firms by market capitalization, showed that 55% of firms were led by CEOs with a finance background, with 23% of CEOs being qualified Chartered Accountants. Organizations with low profitability are more likely to hire a CEO with a finance background, a category that most listed airlines would fall into.

Mean while in Pakistan; Malik a Political appointee who has no background in finance plus holds another full time government job and is also P.I.A CEO

Malik, qualifications;
Malik— a graduate of the National Defence University (NDU) and qualified in Air Command and Staff Course from the US — had served as the Vice Chief of the Air staff.

He has served more than 40 years in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) before being appointed the airline's chief executive officer. He was posted as the PIA's chairperson on October 11, 2018, by the federal government. On April 2, 2019, he was appointed the CEO.

I would love to hear your opinion.
Answer the question.

Answer the question.
Edit: I see you have above.
My opinion is that what Pakistani state enterprises need is a strong person and a fairly honest one that isn't going to cave in to pressure from the various mafias and vested interests currently plaguing Pakistan. That is the greatest quality you should be looking for at this time otherwise no matter how qualified or experienced they are, they will fail. Today's court judgement bears that out.

Try reading my edit.
Touche.

Not sure why are you taking this personally, as far as your edited response is concerned, I was writing my response when you posted your not edited post.. plus its not my fault that you didn't read before responding.

Lol.
You didn't afford me the same consideration and understanding when you didn't directly reply to my post then sent a post with a funny emoji as though I'm expected to read every post on this thread.
However, don't let it bother you.

Funny you only posted a small part of his experience to make your false point. The full list of his experience is as follows:

During his career in PAF, he has flown various trainer and fighter aircraft; and, commanded a fighter squadron, a flying wing, an operational air base and a regional air command. He has also overseen and coordinated the development, manufacturing of JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft, induction of transport aircraft like IL-78 and C-130.
His appointments include Personal Staff Officer to Chief of the Air Staff, Director Operations Project, Director Operational Requirement and Development, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (OR&D), Chief Project Director JF-17, and Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Personnel) at Air Headquarters.

So a person who has several years of flying experience and decades of experience managing operations of the airforce is not suitable to be the CEO of an airline? Instead you say a Chartered Accountant with zero experience of managing an airline will be more suited for the role? Do you understand what the role of a CEO is? They only have to provide direction and give policy frameworks and Arshad Malik seems perfectly capable of doing so, as can be seen from the progress made by the PIA in the last year and change.

The CEO of Emirates is Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum who has none of the credentials you want in an airline CEO instead he has been appointed because he is a relative of the Shiekh. Last time I checked Emirates was one of the best if not THE best airline in the world.

Why don't you post your own credentials and job description and we will critically analyze them whether they meet your job requirements or not. Understand where the boundaries of your auqaat lie, and do not overstep them.

Doug Parker
CEO American Airlines Most Profitable Airline In the world

Parker grew up in Michigan and received a BA in Economics from Albion College (1984). He then received an MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University (1986), where American Airlines offered him a job after a campus interview.

Parker joined Northwest Airlines in 1991 and was tasked to help create a team that would systematically figure out where the airline was making and losing money. Tracking profits flight-by-flight in such detail at that level was a first for Northwest.

Parker became Chief Financial Officer of America West Airlines in 1995 after returning to United States, and because then-CEO Bill Franke wanted to train him to be a CEO, Parker moved around between finance, sales and operations.

Questioning my auqaat has nothing to do with the unsuitability of the candidate for the position. As to the rest of your unintelligent post, follow your own directive and list your own credentials first for all of us to "critically analyze". Seriously, who even speaks like this anymore? My rebuttal to you is that I am more than qualified in my position at work. Doesn't sound like you are though. Next time stay out of topics that clearly beyond your understanding, taking a civilized conversation to insults clearly shows your level of Intelligence..

How many of these are state owned???

And come back to Pakistan to learn how things wors here. He was appointed to clear the mess and he was actually cleaning it. PIA reported record reduction in running losses in the last few months and was inducting new planes after many years. He was going to revive the hotels which the previous two governments were hell bent on selling.

I am not understanding what exactly is your point, I was talking about the qualifications required to be Airline CEO and you came back and claimed he has a full time job as officer in PAF and also running PIA. When asked explain yourself you came back with this ↓↓↓↓↓↓

How many of these are state owned???

What does this mean are you claiming that a qualified CEO will not be able to do what this Part Time Air force guy did.

What's with this third degree from every poster, can't you guys carry on a conversation in a civilized manner before assuming things, I am from Pakistan, I am very well familiar with the way things are in Pakistan and that's what I am trying to explain here unless qualified persons are given the jobs, This will continue to make Pakistan under performing nation..

Not hiring qualified personnel is the reason why highly educated Pakistanis have left the nation and successfully working around the world performing duties and task that they couldn't have gotten in Pakistan because of massive political appointments and double dipping of Retired Army forces personals.

What qualifications? An accountant is a qualification to become CEO of PIA, as you quoted such an example of an American airlines?

PIA was in abysmal state and a VAM has enough experience to be the Fixer. After all PAF operated PIA from beginning and during it's golden years!

If PIA wasn't in the shits then I would not support such an appointment but that is simply not the reality.

Listen to his interview with Mowed and tell me honestly if he is not qualified enough. CEO lead teams to deliver and this guy has decades of aviation experience in leadership roles and he is a pilot as well. What more do you people want??
