The Sindh government has approved an extension in the special powers of the Pakistan Rangers for 90 days in Karachi.

The decision was taken in a Sindh Cabinet meeting on Saturday.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah appreciated the Rangers' efforts against target killers and the bhatta mafia.

"Targeted operations in Karachi have been effective," the chief minister said.

The Rangers ‘operation’ against criminal elements in Pakistan’s commercial hub was initiated back in September 2013 when the federal cabinet empowered the paramilitary force to lead a targeted advance against criminals already identified by federal military and civilian agencies for their alleged involvement in targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism in Karachi.

A report issued by the paramilitary force at the end of 2016 stated that the Rangers had conducted 1,992 operations across the city over the year through which more than 2,847 suspected criminals were taken into custody.

A break-up of the numbers shows that of the 446 target killers arrested by the Rangers, 348 belonged to various political groups, 87 had links to Lyari gangs, while 11 were affiliated with different sectarian groups.

The report said 26 criminals involved in kidnapping for ransom were also apprehended, and 13 of their abductees were safely brought back.

In the report, the Rangers also claimed that murders and targeted killings in the city hit an all-time low in the year, with 87 people falling victim compared to 199 in the preceding year.

When a family mafia and foreign based mafias have tight control over Karachi such as PPP MQM ANP, peace will never return. Rangers will continue to only catch rats and rodants of these criminal master minds sat at high positions. Uzair Baloch should be enough to ban PPP and ofcors Altaf Hussain is an already known anti Pakistani monster sat in London.

The decision comes one day after CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah held a meeting with former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in Dubai. Zardari had reportedly granted permission to Murad to approve the summary for extending Rangers’ stay in Sindh with special powers.

It is worth mentioning here that an extension in powers of rangers at this time when one two ago a Rangers official was killed and 14 others including five Rangers personnel were seriously injured in two explosions near a check post on Miro Khan Road in Larkana on Saturday.
The bombs planted in a bicycle parked near a Rangers check post were detonated through remote control, police said. The injured including six Rangers personnel and nine passers-by were shifted to Chandka Medical Hospital for treatment.
Ranger’s personnel have been targeted in Karachi and other parts of Sindh in the past as well. The paramilitary force was also targeted four times in March through grenade attacks in Karachi, leaving at least three Rangers soldiers wounded.
