Anand Karaj Act in Pakistan is now a law
WSN Network

ISLAMABAD: Now, it is official. Moving at a breakneck speed, Pakistan government has even notified the Sikh Anand Karaj Act. It has also cleared the way for setting up cremation grounds for Hindu community. A delegation of Sikh leaders met with Pakistan Prime Minister Mohammed Soomro to thank him for the expeditious working of the administration in bringing the law.

President Pervez Musharraf lost no time in signing the Act and then ensuring that it was notified without any hitch.

Significantly, Sikhs in India have been demanding a similar measure for some 50 years now but without any success.

What has added to the happiness of the community is that even the Hindu community was granted the right to have cremation grounds.

Funeral rites were being performed by Hindus in Pakistan on the banks of the Ravi so far. Now they have been given 34 kanals of land.

Sikh organizations in India have appreciated the Pakistan government’s move for Sikh marriage act in Pakistan. Pakistan’s Deputy High Commissioner, Afrasiab, said the Sikh organizations and managements of various Gurdwaras in India have expressed the hope that this important step would go a long way in promoting good relations between the people of the two faiths.

The Sikh organization Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) in Delhi and various other organizations of the community in Indian Punjab have conveyed their appreciation in a letter to the Pakistan High Commission.

You brough the personal laws issues into the thread and tried to tell the world that there is no difference between Sikh and Hindu religion. But still Sikhs demand separate laws.

Anyway i did not do the comparison. The comparison is done by your own Indian papers.

I am just highlighting the part which Pakistan done for Sikhs.

we have implemented a separate marriage law for Sikhs as per their demand. Now Sikhs from arround the even India can come and register their marriage under Anand Marriage Act.

Sikhs get a separate marriage law in Pakistan

Despite being a microscopic minority, the Sikhs of Pakistan can now boast of something which has eluded their Indian counterparts since 1980 — a separate law for registering Sikh marriages. On Tuesday, the Pakistani Cabinet approved an ordinance recommending Constitutional status for a Sikh marriage.

On the other hand, in India, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee wondered why the Indian Government is still silent about a similar request. “We put the request of the Anand Marriage Act before the Indian Government for the first time in 1980. Till today, it has fallen on deaf ears.

When India got its first Sikh Prime Minister in Manmohan Singh, our hopes surged, only to be disappointed. Recently, the Supreme Court ordered that all marriages be legally registered. In the wake of this ruling, Sikhs demand a separate identity from Hindus, especially in matters of marriage, adoption and divorce. We have requested the Government again after Pakistan took the lead. Let’s hope something positive comes out of this,” said Paramjit Singh Saran, president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee

Well thank ye Pakistan! We are so glad to be free from the oppressive Hindu marriage laws. I'll be sure to make a trip to loving Pakistan for my marriage!

Give me a break!

They are nothing.

Shirmani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committe (SGPC) is the one who take calls not the Delhi guyz mentioned above.

Sikhs have no marriege problems or personal law problems whatsover in India.

Akali Dal is in Power in Punjab, they were a part of NDA when Vajpayeeji was PM and yet they never demanded for this law. Never even heard of any demands for such law.

If there was a need Manmohan Singh would have done it long back as a PM.

Precisely my point. They are making a mountain out of a molehill in some cheap attempt to win over Indian sikhs and prove that we are being mistreated.

Jana's last two posts only prove this LMAO.

# 1 A lot of Sikh brides in India were cheated by Non Residential Indian Sikhs (especally from Canada) in the past. If this law comes there will be no Government Control on such cheatings.

# 2 Even the Sikhs in Canada/US or Europe marry in Pakistan the mariege will not count in the mentioned countries as each country has its own marriege registration laws.

# 3 India has a compolsuray marriege registration for all Indian citizens of all religions.

# 4 If the thread was for Pakistan's love and affection for its Sikhs then whats the significance of above post mentioning I will pray for Indian sikhs and all?

Now who is bringing India-Pak comparison here?
