Sikh 'genocide' petition tabled in Australian parliament

Huge representation would be 1%? I won't accept this as fact unless I can see a list with people and their addresses, along with batallion locations are shown!

we don't need certificates from Pakistanis Muslims for Indian Sikhs...

The Sikhs n Indians as a whole knows it well that there is not a single Sikh house who doesn't have a military history n the whole nation is proud of them...:agree:

Wholesale community punishment has become a norm in New India since its inception in 1947. It basically rests in the Indian psyche as being the natural heirs of earlier colonial masters. Wholesale murder of Sikhs along with destruction of their holiest shrine and then massacre of over 8000 Sikhs (3000 in Delhi alone) all over India in the aftermath of Indira's killing are but a few examples against the Sikhs. The Chattisinghpura planned massacre of Sikhs by Indian security forces duly supported by their intelligence agencies is another example conducted to initiate ethnic cleansing through exodus of Sikhs from Jammu region of Indian Occupied Kashmir.

Against the Muslims, such wholesale community punishment has been more of a regular routine. One can quote a few recent examples; Hashimpura massacre, Gujarat massacre and the most recent NE India pogrom.

Every time it is the minorities who are the targets and done deliberately so that they do not even think of dissent in a Hindu dominated India.

Such an undertaking in Australia is a good beginning to make the GOI and Indian Hindus as well as the world at large wake up to the realities of such atrocities.

I reckon,You must be feeling really happy now, that your ancestors killed almost all your minorities back in the 1947 itself. The number of Sikhs they killed were in hundreds of thousands.Whatever left of them are fleeing the country every day.Even Shia Muslims are fleeing Pakistan for security reasons. So thank your ancestors saving you all the trouble and troll on India.Because that's the only thing you can do.Blame India.

Outright lie and its been proven by Wiki it was done by jihadees from your country

LeT men carried out J&K massacre: Jundal

Aankhon pe bandhi communal patti hatao ge to nazar ayega. Independent Indian commissions have proved that Chatisnghpura was carried out by Indian security forces. Andhay ko din mein bhi andhera hi dikhta hai - not your fault.

We are discussing a different topic here. Don't run away from it by quoting something not related to it.

We are not blaming India, India is doing this unto itself.

You are discussing about persecution of minorities. What I stated is absolutely relevant. You killed far more Sikhs than anybody else. You drive them out of their motherland and 60 years later you come saying how you feel about them. You are nothing but a hypocrite. And don't forget they still remembers what you people did to them 60 years ago.And I have to say Mr,you have some guts to come here and try to patronize Sikhs in this forum.

You must take into account 1984 riots was not the start of the trouble as also in Punjab many Hindus were killed by Sikh groups and vice versa, im not washing my hands but I believe it was the Congress party that was to blame for the majority of the problems.

Sikh majority Punjab state created (India split Punjab into three states (Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pardesh)

You have narrowed the historical political happening to 71- 84 and ignored the facts why Sikhs demanded separation of Haryana and HP as states.

You have to go to 60s' lingustic differences boiling down to something else and to find out why Bhindranwale transformed from peaceful leader to a "trouble" maker

Andross you are just trying to wash hands of hundreds of Hindu Indians who had killed thousands of Sikh Indians, by puting the blame on Congress Party.

those who took part in brutal killing of Sikhs in 84 are not 100% Congress members

a significant number of congress workers are and were Muslims, several Muslims rioters are under trial and Indira Gandhi was not some Hindu religious figure whose death caused religious violence, she was not even a Hindu, Hindu priests didn't allow her to enter temples.

But offcourse being a Pakistani you would want to paint it " HINDU DOMINATION AND MASSACRE OF INNOCENT SIKHS( WHO ARE GREAT FRIENDS OF PAKISTAN AND MUSLIMS) TO REGAIN A HINDU KINGDOM OF HINDUSTANIA CAPITAL BEING HINDUPUR AND PRESIDENT BEING MR. HINDU ANTI-HUMAN ANTI-PEACE SINGH."

Killing innocent SIKH community as a whole is shameful. you are trying to find an esccape mentioning "Muslims" if it wasnt religious then your escapisim is unfair/unjust

Who is escaping.Every Indian in this forum will admit it was a most shameful episode in our nations history.Only thing he said it was not motivated by religion as you have stated. It was fully organized by Congrass Party.Hindu right wing organizations like RSS and Sangh parivar actual worked to protect Sikhs. He is also right in saying their were many Muslim Congressmen also accused in Killing SiKhs.

All killing is shameful whether it is of Sikhs, Bangalis, Ahmadis, Shias or Balochis or anyone.

Except the Talibaboons. They are not exempted.

p.s. Even the persecution and extermination of Aboriginals in Australia needs to be condemned, since that was shameful too. Is that also up for discussion by the Australian law-makers?

My family lives in delhi and was sheltered by a baniya family for 3 dayd during the 84 riots
Same way many people, mostly neighbors opened the door for shelter against the goons,
So dont give it a hindu vs sikh bend.
This just to shut the trolls,i support this move by the Aus govt.

Sikh 'genocide' petition tabled in Australian parliament | Nov 2, 2012, 11.16AM IST

CANBERRA: An Australian lawmaker has tabled in parliament a petition seeking that the horrific violence that took place in November 1984 in India following the assassination of prime minister Indira Gandhi be recognised as genocide against the Sikh community.

At least 3,000 Sikhs were killed in three days in the Indian capital New Delhi following the killing of Indira Gandhi on Oct 31, 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards.

Warren Enstch, the chief opposition whip for the Liberal Party, on Thursday tabled the 1984 Sikh "genocide" petition before the House of Representatives. A number of Sikhs were present in the parliament galleries when Enstch read the petition, said a press release from the Supreme Council of Australia.

"It is important to note that today, Nov 1, is 28 years to the day that these attacks took place," he said.

"And as long as they continue to be referred to as 'anti-Sikh riots' there can be no closure for the Sikh community. Discussions around mass violence and genocide will always be controversial but the continued denial of such historical injustices can only encourage modern day crimes against humanity."

The petition urged the Australian parliament to recognize that an organised campaign of horrific violence took place against the Sikh community in November 1984, and that these killings were "genocide" as per the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The petition argues that the "the intentional and deliberate nature of the attacks on Sikh lives, properties and places of worship during November 1984 makes them crime of 'genocide'..."

Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), an international human rights group that is lobbying to get the violence of November 1984 against Sikhs recognized as "genocide", supported the tabling of the petition in the parliament of Australia.

According to Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a human rights lawyer, SFJ will now provide documents, witnesses and evidence related to November 1984 Sikh genocide to the Australian ministry of foreign affairs.

Read this link people ... Even if Australia cry a river they will not be able to do anything on this ...this is just a voter pleasing step.

All signatories to the CPPCG are required to prevent and punish acts of genocide, both in peace and wartime, though some barriers make this enforcement difficult. In particular, some of the signatories—namely, Bahrain, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, the United States, Vietnam, Yemen, and Yugoslavia—signed with the proviso that no claim of genocide could be brought against them at the International Court of Justice without their consent.
