Sikander Shah Mir was the 6th Sultan of the Muslim Kashmiri Shah Mir dynasty. He ruled from 1389 to 1413 over the region of Kashmir, and is widely regarded as the individual who firmly established Islam in Kashmir.

He obtained the title of Butshikan (meaning idol-breaker) because he was widely renowned for destruction of numerous temples, chaityas, viharas, shrines, and hermitages.

As a devout Muslim, Sikander forbid any and all things that are considered undesirable in Islam. This includes things such as dance, drama, music, iconography, gambling, alcohol, and instruments.

Under Sikander, the Shah Mir dynasty's army was at it's peak strength with good discipline and organisation, allowing him to launch attacks into surrounding regions in 1398 that were seldom unsuccessful.

Under Sikander's rule, Kashmir also attracted many scholars from places such as Baghdad and Bukhara, who would spread their knowledge to students throughout the region.

Like other Muslim rulers of South Asia, Sikander also had a passion for building magnificent structures, many of which are unfortunately untraceable today or left in ruins, but some still remain intact, such as the Jami Masjid.

Sikander's rule also happened to coincide with Tamerlane's invasion of South Asia, against the Tughlaq Dynasty. Once Tamerlane had conquered Delhi he sent gifts to Sikander as a gesture of goodwill, which established amicable relations between the two powerful Muslim rulers, however, they never physically met in person (exchanges were always through envoys).

don't seem nice person, i admire way of Sufis like Khwaja Moinuddin Ajmeri (r.a) Ali Hujwiri etc, who converted many Hindus with love and compassion, Islam dont admire those who destroyed places of worship of other religions and forcibly banned their practices so their generations continue to hate this beautiful true religion..

According to my information first Muslim ruler of Kashmir was some Jahangiri

Asalamu Alaikum

I do not know of the first, but I do know that Sikander Butshikan was the one who firmly established Islam in the region, and converted many Kashmiris to Islam. He's the reason most of Kashmir is Muslim.

He was at a state of war with them, these people often refused to pay taxes and rebelled against his rule. Therefore, he responded with an iron fist. Perfectly justified.

No dude, that empire didn't start until the 1700's.

During this time, KPK was conquered by Tamerlane.

There probably was an Afghan dynasty ruling it at first, but for most of Sikander's rule the region would have been under Tamerlane's control.

First ruler of Kashmir was Rinchan or Sadruddin Shah, he was the one that established Islam in Kashmir.

He was a Ladakhi Buddhist who converted to Islam.

In my opinion, Sikander was the one that firmly established it, as he almost completely wiped out Hinduism and Buddhism from the area, whilst promoting Islam on a large scale.

It's like comparing Qasim to Ghaznavi, different people have different opinions on who was more important.
