Shun beef to stop climate change, says India

so what is your interest in this! arent u the one who advocates others to keep nose out of internal matters. this is internal matters..

. .
Come on guys, whaT IS GOING ON? First of all I am sure Mr Ramesh has been opportunistically misquoted by the media. Secondly if cows produce maximum methane more than all other emitters, then wouldnt eating them all be an ideal solution?????????
A for refrigerating meat producing emmissions, what about refrigerating milk, curd, paneer etc etc.
I mean this obviously is not making sense and is not true. I dont mean any offense to any one but am only trying to show the atrociously stupid turn this thread is taking.
And yes red dwarf is right, look at kerala you will see how many people eat beef. Sorry for hurting sentiments but it IS TRUE. Dont fight with me, go see for yourself.

Yeah Yeah!! I've heard this argument before!!

A program was aired on PBS some time back, It showed an explanation from scientific community that urging the international communities to start promoting vegetarianism.

I remember the highlights of the show were

"Sixteen pounds of grain and soybeans are needed to produce 1 pound of beef in addition to 435 gallons of water"

"In comparison Just 165 pounds of beef can be produced from one acre of land. But 20,000 pounds of potatoes can be produced from the same acre of land."

"The water used to produce 10 lbs. of steak can provide for a vegetarian family for an entire year."

and many such claims were made on the show.
I was flabbergasted, then I realized they were referring only to beef and steak not pork and poultry.

only after going thru this thread, I realized i completely missed lamb of my menu!!

However if the so called INDIAN lawmaker wants to spread his theory to international community, I would ask him to go vegan soon who knows his theory might catch up with him soon.

First check meat of goat, sheeps and you missed Pig is called Beef.

I stand corrected but
Pig meat is called Pork (I guess)

goat, sheep or lamb everything comes under lamb meat, I'm not sure of this one of lebanese frnds can clear my ambiguity.

:)climate change is Indian internal matter ???

The Indian minister is asking the world to stop eating beef and we are merely asking him any good solid reason for this joke

Actually I believe he said Methane emissions from eating beef are the root cause?

I believe hes pointing to the fact that people who eat more meat, fart out more methane :D. Although I doubt it, bean eaters are more famous for their methane gases. I'd admit I haven't done any research on it.

What you said does make sense, but c'mon, nobody is going to stop eating beef with that argument. Pasture land for grazing is often much different from farming land. People LIKE beef, its not that they are eating beef out of a necessity. You can't take that away from people.

:) welcome to the forum.

Actualy climate change is indeed a seriouse issue but such statements only exclude the bigger culprits who are main cause of more emission.

Take all kinds of beefs into consideration and tell me if Indian minister's claim is going to help in forming a healthy society??

Thanks for not using TOI link as it did not serve the intended purpose.

If other animals meat is called beef then I think that pork is more healthier than Cow beef. Its tastier too.

Beef or Steak, they are from cows (male or female) and no other animals. Please at least check online and be clear before you make a statement as absurd as this one.

Pig meat is Ham/Pork (Sausages are traditionally and commonly made out of pork).

Also, goat meat is in no way called lamb. In western countries, it is called goat, and in South Asian countries it is called Mutton.

Lamb - Must be a young sheep, however a grown up can also be served as lamb.

:) who is stopping you from eating pork.

But the statement by Indian minister is just childish

And it is the bottom line what your Indian minister meant ;)

instead of finding flam in every thread try to analyse statement by your minister. The recent meeting about Climate change has already failed to formulate any consensus. The countries who are adding to carbon emissions largely are shying away from announcing funds for fighting the climate change and are asking smaller nations including India to pay more which is not at all justified.

In such a scenario the silly statement by Indian minister is tantamount to give a free walk to all those major carbon emitters.
