Shourya hypersonic missile launch successful

Hi,

Very interesting test and very close to serial production as well !! There is no relenting on the nuke scenario.

So what exactly are we trying to convey to Pakistan?

That we are actively and successfully developing regular ABM measures that will render most of your arsenal ineffective. Not just that --- you do not have a similar ABM system --- and yet we develop a hybrid missile --- so that in future if you do decide to get a credible ABM system from China, chances of it being successful against Shourya are slim.

Hence do not even dream of pressing the nuke button. We will at all times retaliate with force while possessing decent deterrent measures as well. Kind of 'call my bluff' attitude about Pakistan's increased reliance on nukes against Indian military aggression.

terrific just terrific :) what would Shaurya be considered as? a ballistic or cruise missile?

Its quasi ballistic.... It has a flat trajectory..

If the Shaurya follows a flat trajectory that means it's following a cruising path because both are equivalent. So how does Shaurya become a quasy 'ballistic' missile at the 1st place when it never follows a ballistic trajectory at all????By the way,how many ballistic missiles have a diameter of 70cm??ballistic missiles have a diameter of 70cm??

I think DRDO should start to use Agni 1 and Shaurya missiles as targets instead of Prithvi 2s while testing the PDV(from the 4th or 5th test). That way DRDO can perfect the ABM to near 100% efficacy. If they can successfully intercept the Shaurya, then the Indian ABM will destroy anything that Pakistan can throw at us.
REGARDS. . . .

majority part of trajectory is flat and the initial and final stages still resemble a ballistic missile. The difference from ballistic missiles stems from the air independent propulsion whereas propulsion is absolutely absent in ballisitc missiles except the boost phase.

I hope I am being clear here...

Congrats to all my Indians out there

If it is flat trajectory than how it is a quasi ballistic missile? Cruise missiles are meant to cruise in the atmosphere with flat trajectory, so is Shaurya.

Now all we need to see is the homemade Arihant fire the home made Sagarika (sea versian of Shaurya)..

Was thinking same. But I think they have done it already. None of the K-15 tests were made public. If not done, than also it will not be public.

My three wishes, :D

1) PDV test
2) K-15 from Arihant video
3) Agni-V MIRV test

Sea skiming
sea skimming
See also: Nap-of-the-earth

Sea skimming is a technique many anti-ship missiles use to avoid radar and infrared detection during their approach.
HideMethod

Sea skimming anti-ship missiles try to fly as low as is practically achievable, which is almost always below 50 meters (150 ft), and is often down towards 5 meters (15 ft).

Nap of the earth
(my abbreviation NAPEARTH means travelling of planes missiles etc. near to sea or land area)

Nap-of-the-earth (abbreviated NOE) is a type of very low-altitude flight course used by military aircraft to avoid enemy detection and attack in a high-threat environment.[1]

During NOE flight, geographical features are used as cover, exploiting valleys and folds in the terrain by flying in, rather than over, them. This keeps below enemy radar coverage, avoiding "skylining". Other terms are also used, including "ground-hugging", "terrain masking", or "flying under the radar".

Cruise Missile

cruise missile noun

a large weapon with a warhead that flies close to the ground and is guided by its own computer to an exact place

(Advance Oxford dictinary)

A cruise missile is a guided missile that carries an explosive payload and is propelled, usually by a jet engine, towards a land-based or sea-based target. Cruise missiles are designed to deliver a large warhead over long distances with high accuracy. Modern cruise missiles can travel at supersonic or high subsonic speeds, are self-navigating, and can fly on a non-ballistic, extremely low altitude trajectory.

Quasi ballistic missiles

A quasi ballistic missile (also called a semi ballistic missile) is a category of missile that has a low trajectory and/or is largely ballistic but can perform maneuvers in flight or make unexpected changes in direction and range.[citation needed]

At a lower trajectory than a ballistic missile, a quasi ballistic missile can maintain higher speed, thus allowing its target less time to react to the attack, at the cost of reduced range.

The Russian Iskander is a quasi ballistic missile.[3]The Russian Iskander-M cruises at hypersonic speed of 2,100–2,600 m/s (Mach 6 - 7) at a height of 50 km. The Iskander-M weighs 4,615 kg carries a warhead of 710 – 800 kg, has a range of 480 km and achieves a CEP of 5 – 7 meters. During flight it can maneuver at different altitudes and trajectories to evade anti-ballistic missiles.[4][5]

China has recently developed the first and only anti-ship ballistic missile in the world, that combines a maneuverable reentry vehicle (MaRV) with a terminal guidance system, allowing them to adjust the flight path as they near their target, and are thought to be in use by the People's Liberation Army as of late 2010.

Leave it to the pak media to put the wrong missile
Glad the message has been delivered though

BHUBANESHWAR: India tested a medium-range nuclear-capable missile along its eastern coast on Saturday, an official said, as part of the nation’s efforts to build up its atomic deterrent.

The indigenous surface-to-surface Shourya missile was fired from a range in the eastern state of Orissa as a trial for the Indian army, said SP Dash, director of the Integrated Test Range.

“The launch of the missile was perfect. It followed the path exactly to the predefined target in the Bay of Bengal,” Dash told AFP.

India’s Defence Research Development Organisation is developing a series of missiles as part of the country’s deterrent strategy against neighbouring Pakistan and China, which also have nuclear weapons.

The Shourya – built domestically and developed for the army – is being fine-tuned after its debut in November 2008.

With a striking range of 434 miles, the missile uses solid propellant and is capable of carrying a 1,000 kilogram warhead.

Due to security concerns, authorities evacuated over 2,000 people, including women and children living close to the testing range, and shifted them to temporary shelters.
